Mechanical Engineer
Location: Chelmsford, MA
Duration: 6–12+ Month Contract
Pay Rate: $35–50/hr
Position Overview
We are seeking a high-potential Mechanical Engineer with Creo experience to join a Vacuum Systems Design Engineering team supporting advanced automation and semiconductor equipment. In this role, you will contribute to the design, analysis, and validation of mechanical systems operating in high and ultra-high vacuum environments.
This is a hands-on engineering role offering exposure to real production hardware, cross-functional collaboration, and mentorship from experienced engineers in vacuum technology, robotics, and precision automation.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Assist in the design and development of vacuum chambers, frames, subassemblies, pumping interfaces, vacuum and nitrogen lines, and precision mechanical components
- Create, modify, and maintain 3D CAD models, assemblies, and detailed drawings using Creo
- Release 2D drawings, assembly drawings, and manufacturer parts
- Perform basic engineering calculations and analysis (structural, modal, O-ring compression, etc.)
- Support system builds, integration, and troubleshooting activities
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, controls, manufacturing, and systems engineering teams
- Participate in Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), BOM creation, and configuration management using a PLM system (Agile)
- Support the full product lifecycle—from concept development through production release and shipment
- Participate in design reviews, peer reviews, and concept reviews
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field and 2-5+ years of expereince
- Strong foundation in mechanical engineering fundamentals (statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, materials, and mechanical design)
- Experience with Creo 3D or Solidworks CAD software is required
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and GD&T
- Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail
- Comfortable working in a collaborative, team-based engineering environment
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
Nice to Have (but not required)
- Exposure to vacuum systems, robotics, or semiconductor equipment
- Experience with PLM systems (Agile or similar)
