Lead Fire Technician (Smoke Control Specialist)
Responsibilities
- Smoke Control Operations — Oversee, test, and maintain all smoke control systems, including stairwell pressurization, atrium exhaust, fire dampers, and mechanical smoke evacuation equipment to ensure compliance with NFPA and local codes.
- System Diagnostics — Perform advanced troubleshooting on fire alarm panels, smoke control interfaces, and networked life‑safety systems.
- Fire Alarm Integration — Coordinate with fire alarm vendors and building automation teams to ensure smoke control sequences operate correctly during alarms and drills.
- Code Compliance — Ensure all work aligns with NFPA 92, NFPA 72, IBC smoke control requirements, and AHJ directives; prepare documentation for inspections and annual certifications.
- Testing & Commissioning — Lead functional testing, acceptance testing, and periodic re‑testing of smoke control systems; document results and corrective actions.
- Team Leadership — Mentor junior technicians, assign tasks, review work quality, and ensure safe work practices during all fire‑life‑safety activities.
- Emergency Response Support — Act as the technical lead during fire events, drills, and system activations; provide real‑time system insights to facility management and first responders.
- Preventive Maintenance — Develop and execute maintenance schedules for smoke control fans, dampers, sensors, and control equipment.
- Reporting & Documentation — Maintain detailed logs, inspection reports, deficiency lists, and repair records for all smoke control and fire‑life‑safety systems.
Qualifications
- Experience with smoke control systems and fire alarm integration
- Strong knowledge of NFPA 92, NFPA 72, and IBC smoke control requirements
- Ability to lead testing, commissioning, and emergency response support
- Technical troubleshooting experience with mechanical and electrical system
Preferred Technical Expertise
- Notifier Programming — Installation and programming experience with Notifier Inspire, Onyx, and Fire Warden series (primary product line).
- Other FACP Platforms — Programming experience with Silent Knight, Farenhyte, Potter, and similar systems.
- CLSS Gateway — Ability to configure and program Honeywell CLSS Gateway.
- Napco Communicators — Experience programming Napco fire communicators.
Notifier systems ( Inspire, Onyx, and Fire Warden series) is our main product line.
Must be able to pass a background check
