Job Summary
NexGen Technologies is seeking a Section 508 Specialist to support a federal civilian modernization program by evaluating, testing, remediating, and validating accessibility compliance for mission‑critical applications, digital content, and enterprise technology solutions. This role is responsible for performing advanced accessibility assessments, developing and implementing remediation strategies, supporting application modernization, and ensuring alignment with federal accessibility, usability, and compliance requirements.
The Section 508 Specialist performs advanced, professional work requiring independent judgment in interpreting accessibility standards, analyzing system behavior, developing remediation solutions, and ensuring that digital systems meet mission needs for usability, compatibility, and compliance. The role requires senior‑level technical expertise in evaluating complex applications, developing accessible code patterns, producing technical documentation, and serving as a primary technical contact for accessibility compliance within a modernization initiative.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (as assigned)
- Conduct Section 508 and WCAG 2.0/2.1 accessibility testing for websites, applications, digital documents, and enterprise systems.
- Perform manual and automated accessibility assessments using industry‑standard tools (e.g., Axe, WAVE, JAWS, NVDA, ANDI).
- Remediate accessibility issues across digital content, including PDFs, Word documents, PowerPoint presentations, and web‑based interfaces.
- Develop accessible code patterns, templates, and remediation scripts to support modernization and compliance activities.
- Analyze application behavior, system interactions, and functional workflows to identify accessibility barriers and technical constraints.
- Translate user stories, functional requirements, and accessibility findings into secure, maintainable remediation implementations.
- Document accessibility findings, defects, remediation steps, and technical recommendations in clear, actionable formats.
- Serve as a technical point of contact for accessibility compliance, advising developers, designers, analysts, and government stakeholders.
- Support creation and maintenance of VPATs, accessibility conformance reports, and compliance documentation.
- Validate accessible design patterns, ARIA usage, semantic structure, keyboard navigation, and assistive technology compatibility.
- Develop standards, guides, and technical documentation to support accessibility governance and modernization efforts.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies including Sprint Planning, Daily Standups, Sprint Reviews, and Retrospectives.
- Provide accessibility metrics, compliance updates, technical assessments, and risk evaluations to leadership and government stakeholders.
- Support release readiness, change management, dependency management, and issue resolution activities related to accessibility compliance.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of accessibility testing, remediation processes, tools, and methodologies.

Required Skills
- Minimum of 10 years performing Section 508 and WCAG accessibility testing and remediation.
- Strong understanding of WCAG 2.0/2.1, Section 508 standards, and federal accessibility compliance frameworks.
- Hands‑on experience with accessibility testing and remediation tools (e.g., Axe, WAVE, JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, ANDI, CommonLook).
- Proficiency with development or scripting languages (e.g., JavaScript, Python, HTML, CSS, ARIA) to support remediation and accessible code implementation.
- Experience analyzing system behavior, workflows, and technical constraints to develop remediation strategies.
- Ability to identify accessibility barriers, interpret standards, and translate findings into clear remediation guidance.
- Strong understanding of Agile delivery environments running Sprint cadence.
- Proven ability to collaborate across cross‑functional teams and communicate technical accessibility concepts clearly.
Desired Skills
- Experience supporting federal agencies or multi‑bureau modernization initiatives.
- Familiarity with accessible design principles, ARIA best practices, semantic HTML, and remediation workflows.
- Experience contributing to accessibility governance, policy development, or enterprise accessibility programs.
- Certifications in accessibility (e.g., CPACC, WAS, CPWA) or related technical domains.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, human‑computer interaction, accessibility studies, or a related field.

- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a regulated federal environment.
- Strong analytical, problem solving, and communication skills.
- Must be able to pass background screening prior to employment.
- U.S. Citizenship, lawful permanent residency, or U.S. work authorization with a minimum of three years of U.S. presence, as required for federal contracts.
Compensation: $60–70/hour
