The Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring product and process quality across aerospace manufacturing operations through the implementation and continuous improvement of quality systems, corrective actions, and operational process controls.
This role supports compliance with customer, regulatory, and internal requirements while partnering cross-functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations, Supply Chain, and customers to drive operational excellence, reduce risk, and improve overall business performance.
Position Duties
Essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to:
Quality Systems & Compliance
- Support and maintain compliance with AS9100, customer, regulatory, and internal quality system requirements.
- Interpret customer, commercial, and government contract requirements and ensure applicable quality requirements are properly implemented.
- Develop, implement, and maintain quality procedures, inspection instructions, checklists, and related documentation.
- Assist in maintaining and improving the organization’s Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure continued compliance and effectiveness.
- Assist in maintaining and improving the organization’s NADCAP certifications to ensure continued compliance and effectiveness.
- Review engineering drawings, specifications, procedures, releases, and changes to verify quality requirements are accurate and inspection criteria can be achieved.
- Act as a liaison with customer representatives, certifying agencies, and government representatives regarding quality requirements and compliance matters.
Product & Manufacturing Quality Support
- Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations, and other functional groups to ensure quality requirements are achieved throughout production.
- Support First Article Inspection (FAI) activities and inspection planning as required.
- Drive Material Review Board (MRB) activities and disposition nonconforming material in collaboration with Engineering and Operations.
- RCCA Investigate and take necessary containment actions on product nonconformances, customer complaints, and rejected material conditions; develop corrective actions and verify implementation effectiveness.
- Coordinate issuance of external quality notifications including Notices of Escape and Letters of Advisement when required.
- Inspect and verify product shipment releases for customer self-release programs and prepare documentation for customer and 3rd party source inspections including FAA.
- Design and coordinate development of specialized inspection tooling and related inspection methods when required.
- Acquire Pratty & Whitney LCS certification and other customer approvals.
- Navigate customer portals for quality related activities.
- Gather and populate inspection metrics such as PPAP, SPC, Gage R&R as required.
- Create and/or modify procedures as required.
- Review and approve Engineering Orders in a timely manner.
- Participate in continuous improvement, scrap reduction, and cost-of-poor quality activities.
- Coordinate customer returns and vendor return process to completion.
Auditing & Continuous Improvement
- Take lead in customer and 3rd party audit on AS9100/ISO 9001 and NADCAP recertifications, QMS, and product qualification.
- Perform internal & external audits to ensure compliance with the Quality Management System and applicable procedures.
- Support root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action activities using structured problem-solving methodologies.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to improve quality processes, reduce variation, and enhance operational performance.
- Assist in developing and delivering training related to inspection methods, quality procedures, and quality system requirements.
- Maintain awareness of industry developments, regulatory changes, and quality best practices and recommend improvements where applicable.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or related technical field preferred.
- Minimum of three years of experience in aerospace manufacturing quality engineering, quality assurance, or related technical roles.
Required Skills
- Working knowledge of AS9100 and ISO 9001 quality systems.
- Experience with root cause analysis and corrective action methodologies (8D, RCCA, 5 Why, etc.).
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T requirements.
- Familiarity with Statistical Process Control (SPC) and process capability analysis.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and ERP/MRP systems.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and collaborate across multiple functions.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and use hands and fingers to handle objects, tools, or controls. The employee may occasionally lift and move items up to 25 pounds.
The position requires near vision, corrected or uncorrected in at least one eye, of Jaeger J2 (20/25) or equivalent. Employees may be required to sit or stand for prolonged periods while working in office and manufacturing environments.
