Position Overview:
Otsego Middle School is seeking a motivated and knowledgeable Robotics Club Advisor to lead and
grow our middle school robotics program. This advisor will mentor students as they explore engineering, coding, and problem-solving through hands-on robotics challenges and competitions. The ideal candidate is passionate about STEM education and enthusiastic about fostering curiosity and teamwork in a supportive, engaging environment.
Key Responsibilities:

Lead and mentor middle school students in the design, construction, programming, and operation of robots for the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC).

Promote a safe, inclusive, and collaborative learning environment aligned with the values of the school district and FIRST’s core principles of gracious professionalism and teamwork.

Guide students through all phases of the robotics process, including concept development, design, fabrication, wiring, and coding.

Provide instruction and support in engineering, computer science, and problem-solving skills.

Oversee team organization, scheduling, and project management to ensure timely progress throughout the build and competition season.

Coordinate with school administration, parents, sponsors, and community partners to support team needs and outreach activities.

Manage team budget, fundraising efforts, and equipment inventory, ensuring responsible use of district and sponsor resources.

Attend and supervise students at two official FTC competitions

Ensure compliance with district policies, safety procedures, and FIRST Robotics regulations.

The FTC season runs from September thru December, with meetings, build sessions, and events occurring on some evenings and weekends.
Qualifications:

Background in STEM education, robotics, computer science, or related fields preferred.

Experience working with middle school students in an instructional or coaching role.

Familiarity with robotics platforms (e.g., LEGO Mindstorms, VEX, or similar) is a plus.

Strong organizational and communication skills.

Ability to inspire and mentor students of varying skill levels.
