The position is located in Manoa to Kahala on the Island of Oahu.
Salary: $11,637 - $31,481 per month (salary commensurate with training and experience)
Exempt, Non-Civil Service, Full-Time, Temporary Appointment. This position serves as the Medical Director for the statewide MEDICOM Communications and Transfer Center, providing clinical oversight, medical direction, and quality governance for all Medicom-related EMS communications activities. The incumbent establishes and approves medical communication protocols, ensures clinical accuracy in triage and transfer decisions, and supports compliance with EMS statutes, federal requirements, and accreditation standards. The Medical Director collaborates with Medicom leadership. EMS agencies, hospitals, aeromedical partners, and statewide RHT stakeholders to ensure safe, effective, and coordinated emergency communication and patient movement. This physician role is critical to advancing rural health transformation by embedding clinical expertise, high-reliability practices, and medical accountability into Hawaii's statewide emergency communication and transfer system.
EDUCATION:
Graduation from an accredited school of medicine with a degree of Doctor of Medicine and completion of one (1) year of internship in a recognized hospital.
EXPERIENCE:
One (1) year of experience in the conduct and delivery of prehospital emergency medical services as a physician practicing emergency medicine in a hospital or agency which involved active participation in and major responsibilities for the development, management, execution and coordination of programs. policies, and procedures in the delivery of emergency medical services.
Experience in training prehospital personnel is preferable.
REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATES:
(1) License to practice medicine in the State of Hawaii
(2) Valid Driver's License
(3) Valid up-to-date State and Federal DEA license
