We are seeking an experienced Sterile Processing Department (SPD) Supervisor to support operations at one of our partnered hospitals. This role provides supervisory oversight for the night shift, with weekend coverage as operationally required. The Supervisor oversees shift activities related to the reprocessing of reusable medical supplies, High-Level Disinfection (HLD), and storage processes, ensuring compliance with regulatory and professional standards while supporting department staff.
Key ResponsibilitiesSupervision & Shift Coverage
- Provide supervisory oversight and support across night and weekend shifts, as required by operational needs
- Oversee all shift activities related to sterile processing, HLD, and storage of reusable medical supplies
Night Shift-Specific Responsibilities
- Review the next day's surgical schedule and prioritize assembled case carts
- Supervise night shift staff to prepare all case carts for first and second cases
- Prioritize sterilization of pending trays and ensure delivery of all required items for the following day
- Confirm preparation and readiness of all trauma and emergency trays
Operational Compliance
- Ensure all operational procedures, policies, and regulatory standards are consistently followed
- Supervise staff performance and adherence to established workflows
Tracking, Audits & Reporting
- Maintain working knowledge of the surgical tray and instrument tracking system
- Produce monthly reports and support operational metrics
- Perform routine tray audits, including audits for bioburden and tray accuracy
Communication & Coordination
- Respond to calls from the Operating Room (OR) and other departments during and after regular business hours, as required
- Conduct daily reviews of the next day's surgical schedule with the OR Charge Nurse
- Communicate scheduling, staffing, and coverage needs with SPD and Perioperative leadership
- Participate in regular meetings with OR and designated leaders
Staffing & Scheduling Support
- Support staffing needs, including placing agency staffing requests when required
- Escalate unresolved staffing gaps to the SPD / Perioperative Director
- Maintain competency in Clairvia scheduling to provide backup scheduling support
Performance Management
- Document personnel performance issues and participate in corrective or disciplinary action meetings, as required
- Provide coaching and guidance to SPD staff during assigned shifts
Safety, Quality & Equipment
- Enter safety events into eMers and respond within 48 hours in accordance with policy
- Submit and track work tickets related to equipment malfunctions and report issues to Perioperative Services leadership
Data & Quality Metrics
- Assist with data collection and reporting of KPIs for Infection Control, Quality, and Leadership teams
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Minimum three (3) years of Sterile Processing experience
- Minimum one (1) year in a leadership or supervisory role
- Prior experience as a Sterile Processing & Distribution Technician
- Current CBSPD or CRCST certification
- Ability to travel to various locations, as required
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree from an accredited two-year college or technical program
Pay: $68,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
