American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Emergency Observation Unit (Med/Surg Tele) position at a Level III Trauma Teaching Hospital in Concord, NC, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and strong cardiac and stroke skills.

Emergency Observation Unit in a 457-bed Level III Trauma Teaching Hospital that is also a Chest Pain Center, Stroke Center of Excellence, and Bariatric Center of Excellence

10-bed unit with an average daily census of 8 patients

Patient population includes chest pain, syncope, and angina diagnoses

RN-to-patient ratio of 1:5

Required procedures and skills include stroke care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT/Dobhoff/PEG tube placement, drain and tube management (Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley), and PCA pumps
-
Medication drip management includes cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IVF

EMR: Epic (experience required); IV Pumps: Alaris; Medication Dispensing: Omnicell

12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM (check-in 6:50 AM, check-out 7:10 PM), 36 hours per week

Every-other-weekend rotation required

Floating is required within Region 1 facilities, which includes Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, and Central Division (CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH – pediatrics only); candidates who are not willing to float to all facilities within the region should not apply

No on-call or call-back requirements

Active NC RN license or a Compact RN license currently in hand

Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required

Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience, with most recent experience within the last year
-
Proficiency in a general Med/Tele skillset including stroke care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, and IV medication drip management

Epic EMR experience required

Must provide last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth for consideration

Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
-
Candidate's permanent address must be located at least 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted

Departmental support includes a supervising Charge RN, a Resource RN to assist with admissions and discharges, 24/7 Respiratory Therapy, 24/7 Hospitalist coverage, and an IV/VAT team

Orientation consists of a New Employee Orientation (NEO) followed by 2 days of departmental onboarding
-
Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
-
Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved (excluding holidays); contracted hours must still be met

Schedule is posted on a 6-week cycle

Must be separated from any Advocate Health Southeast (AHSE) facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position before being considered
