Duties
- Safely operate tractor-trailers on long-distance routes, following all FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) and DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations.
- Load and unload freight using manual handling techniques or equipment such as forklifts, ensuring cargo safety and security.
- Navigate using GPS systems to optimize routes and meet delivery schedules efficiently.
- Handle various types of freight, including refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, hazardous materials, and dangerous goods, complying with all relevant regulations.
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, inspections, and deliveries in compliance with FMCSA regulations.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety and report any issues promptly.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers and customers to coordinate deliveries and resolve any route or cargo concerns promptly.
Skills
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving, especially with route driving over long distances.
- Skilled in operating manual transmission trucks with proficiency in tractor-trailer handling.
- Knowledge of refrigerated trailer operation, flatbed securing techniques, tanker operations, and hazardous materials regulations.
- Familiarity with GPS navigation systems for efficient route planning.
- Ability to perform manual handling tasks related to freight loading/unloading using equipment like forklifts or dump trucks.
- Strong understanding of FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and DOT (Department of Transportation) safety standards.
- Excellent driving record with experience in delivery driver roles involving freight transportation across diverse terrains.
