THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THIS POSITION ARE AS FOLLOWS:
- Performs routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of slides by following
established standard operating procedures.
- Collects, processes and/or distributes lab specimens to in-house destinations.
- Aids in preparing specimens for analysis.
- Performs diverse clerical duties including order processing, report filing, enter/retrieving lab
data, and problem-solving.
- Communicates with staff in providing test order or collection information, problem-solving or
referral.
- Performs routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment and troubleshoots minor equipment
failures. Operates and maintains slide stainers, coverslippers and tissue processors.
- Adheres to laboratory quality control policies and properly documents all quality control
activities.
- Follows appropriate laboratory safety protocols.
- Aids in maintaining laboratory cleanliness and general supply inventory levels.
- Unpacks supplies received; dates and stocks orders, in accordance with established policies and
procedures.
- Ensures compliance with all local, federal, CLIA and CAP regulations.
- Performs trim pop, embedding, slide check out and enters data into LIS.
- Gradually trains on performing microtomy on routine specimens.
- Continues professional growth by preparing for the Histology Technician certification exam.
- Files blocks and slides.
- Delivers slides to office area.
- Maintains a clean and well-organized work area.
- Other duties, as assigned by supervisor.
OTHER FUNCTIONS OF THIS POSITION ARE AS FOLLOWS:
- Miscellaneous projects identified by the technician in charge, lab supervisor, Technical Director as
necessary or as assigned by supervisor.
- Any/all tasks that are performed by a lab aide, in the event that staff coverage is necessary.
Pay: $24.00 - $29.00 per hour
