The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) role provides crucial support to the nursing staff and assists patients with their daily care needs. This role is essential for ensuring patient comfort and safety in a hospital unit environment.
Include the following.
- Possess a basic understanding of nursing principles.
- Participate in and receive the nursing report from licensed staff while maintaining the patient’s privacy and dignity assist with activities of daily living (DLs), including bathing, grooming, dressing, and toileting.
- Help patients with mobility, transferring them safely in and out of beds, chairs, and wheelchairs.
- Measure and record vital signs, such as temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure, and report any abnormalities to the patient’s primary nurse.
- Monitor patients for changes in condition and report observations or any refusal in care directly to the primary nurse and charge nurse.
- Assist in documenting patient care activities and responses in medical records.
- Assist patients with feeding and hydration, ensuring dietary restrictions are followed.
- Help set up meal trays and help as needed during mealtimes.
- Ensure patient rooms are clean, organized, and free of hazards,
- Follow infection control protocols and ensure proper sanitation practices.
- Collaborate with the nursing team to deliver comprehensive patient care.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to the development of patient care plans.
- Patient Advocate by providing companionship and emotional support to patients, helping them feel comfortable and cared for during their hospital stay.
- Uses the nursing process to assess, plan, and evaluate patient care in collaboration with the RN/LPN. Provides nursing care, in collaboration with the RN, with consideration of the physical, psychosocial, cultural/spiritual, and age specific needs of those served. Demonstrate the appropriate use of equipment/supplies. Use appropriate safety and infection control measure.
- Will teach, direct, advice and inform others in an appropriate manner under the supervision of an RN.
- Report and records information legibly and appropriately.
- Collects specimens: urine, stool, sputum, Performs finger stick blood sugar specimen and EKG testing.
- Make decisions within the scope of practice for the nursing assistant and according to established hospital policies and procedures.

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Completion of an Idaho State approved nursing aide training program (CNA Certification) upon hire or within six (6) months of hire date.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire.
