Substitute Teacher (as needed)
Job Description
Providence Academy is a Christian Independent school that was founded in 2013 with a mission “to provide uncompromising excellence in educating and equipping students with Truth.” The school serves over 200 students in Junior Kindergarten – 8th grade.
The Substitute Teacher will cover for an absent full-time teacher, adhering to the day’s lesson plan and ensuring that students have a fulfilling learning experience. The ideal candidate will have teaching experience and an ability to lead classrooms effectively. The ideal candidate will have flexibility to work on days requested and on short notice as needed.
Objectives of this role
- Model Christ-like behavior and attitude in the classroom
- Maintain availability to accept assignments
- Execute lesson plan consistent with teacher guidelines and school curriculum
- Establish an orderly classroom environment and provide a positive learning experience
- Become familiar with school emergency protocols, such as fire drill and lockdown
- Adhere to all school policies and procedures
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate patience and joy in the classroom while actively engaging with students.
- Follow teacher’s instructions for lesson plan
- Record attendance according to Providence Academy procedure
- Assign homework according to lesson plan
- Supplement lesson plan with other classroom activities, if time allows
- Maintain discipline in the classroom and foster a safe, productive learning environment in accordance with school policies
- Compile report for teacher that includes student attendance, lesson-plan progress, disciplinary actions, and positive developments
- Comfortable integrating Christian values into their teaching and living out those values in their daily lives.
Required skills and qualifications
- Willing to sign Providence Academy’s Statement of Faith, proclaiming Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior.
- Flexibility and patience in scheduling
- Confidence and proficiency in giving instruction
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to pass background check
Preferred skills and qualifications
- Ideal candidate has a four year degree and/or experience in education.
