JOB
The position is responsible for assisting instructors and students in the welding lab. Welding processes in the program include GMAW, SMAW, FCAW, GTAW, OFC, CAA, and PAC.
This is a part-time position and can work up to 18 hours a week.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
- Maintain welding booths, demo stations, and tool storage organized for student use in good working order. This includes repairing metal fixtures with plasma arc cutting and GMAW (MIG welding), using hand tools, minor troubleshooting and repair of welding equipment, and cleaning and organizing storage racks, shelves, and cabinets.

Assist in the daily operations and support of the Welding Technology Program, including preparing and maintaining lab spaces and equipment.

Preparation of materials and machinery for lab exercises.

Maintain a clean and safe work area.

Inspect equipment and notify the Program Coordinator of problems.

Perform basic maintenance on laboratory equipment.

Communicate effectively in a professional, tactful, and courteous manner with students, employees, faculty, and the general public.

Carry out any other tasks as directed by the department to ensure the smooth operation of the program.

Ability to perform weldments in all positions using the Shielded Metal Arc Welding process.

Ability to perform weldments in all positions using the Gas Metal Arc Welding process.

Ability to perform weldments in all positions using the Flux-Cored Arc Welding process.

Ability to perform weldments in all positions using the Gs Tungsten Arc Welding process.

Ability to manage time.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
No direct supervision
Work Environment: Regular work required outside of normal business hours
Physical Demands: This position includes lifting (65lbs) and the ability to stand, sit, walk, reach, stoop, bend, push, pull, kneel, climb, use hands and fingers, and talk/hear for extended periods. Must possess mobility to work in a standard shop setting, as well as an outside environment, which could include extreme hot and cold temperatures, and use standard office equipment, including a computer.
Travel Required: Yes- Minimal
If travel is required, the candidate must have and maintain a current, valid Texas driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
