Hermann Park Conservancy is a citizens' organization dedicated to the stewardship, improvement, and long-term sustainability of Hermann Park. The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining park facilities, buildings, infrastructure, equipment, and amenities to ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for visitors.
Working as part of the Maintenance team, this position performs preventive maintenance, inspections, repairs, custodial support, and park asset maintenance while assisting with small construction projects and providing excellent customer service.
Duties and Responsibilities
Facility and Park Maintenance

Inspect, maintain, and repair park facilities, buildings, infrastructure, and public amenities.

Perform general maintenance including minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, drywall, masonry, flooring, hardware, and mechanical repairs.

Maintain benches, fencing, gates, signage, trash receptacles, fountains, drainage systems, walls, pavement, and other park assets.

Perform preventive maintenance to maximize the life and functionality of park facilities and equipment.

Assist with seasonal projects, special events, and park improvement initiatives.
Equipment and Asset Support

Perform inspections and minor maintenance on utility vehicles, trucks, tractors, mowers, small engines, hydraulic equipment, battery-powered equipment, and other maintenance machinery.

Safely operate hand tools, power tools, utility vehicles, pressure washers, blowers, trimmers, edgers, and other maintenance equipment.

Maintain work orders, inspection records, inventories, and documentation using computerized maintenance software.

Assist with installation of park furnishings, fencing, signs, concrete pads, and other park improvements.

Coordinate with vendors and contractors as assigned
Grounds and Custodial Support

Customer Service and Safety

Provide courteous assistance and information to park visitors.

Report maintenance issues, vandalism, hazards, and unsafe conditions promptly.

Follow all Hermann Park Conservancy safety policies and use required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Safely operate equipment and vehicles while maintaining a safe work environment.

Perform other duties as assigned in support of park operations.
Skills & Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED.

One (1) year of experience in facilities maintenance, building maintenance, construction, parks maintenance, landscaping, mechanical repair, or a related field.

Valid Texas driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Experience operating hand and power tools.

Strong customer service, communication, and teamwork skills.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of commercial building and park maintenance practices.

Knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, masonry, and mechanical repair techniques.

Knowledge of preventive maintenance principles.

Ability to troubleshoot and complete minor repairs safely and efficiently.

Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and meet deadlines.

Ability to establish effective working relationships with coworkers, contractors, vendors, and the public.

Physical Requirements

Ability to perform strenuous physical labor daily in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.

Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb ladders, and work on uneven terrain.

Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 50 pounds.

Ability to safely operate maintenance equipment and vehicles throughout the workday.

Ability to work weekends, holidays, evenings, or emergency response assignments when needed.
Working Conditions
This position primarily works outdoors in a public park environment with extensive interaction with visitors. Work includes exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, dust, equipment, and maintenance-related hazards. The employee must comply with Hermann Park Conservancy dress standards, safety policies, and operational procedures.
