Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Shop Foreman to oversee daily production operations in our sheet metal fabrication facility. The Shop Foreman is responsible for coordinating workflow, supervising shop personnel, ensuring production schedules are met, maintaining quality standards, and promoting a safe and efficient work environment.
The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, extensive sheet metal fabrication experience, and the ability to effectively manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Must be open to working overtime and weekends.
Key Responsibilities
Production & Operations
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise daily shop operations.
- Assign work to fabricators, welders, machine operators, and general labor personnel.
- Monitor production schedules and ensure jobs are completed on time.
- Review work orders, drawings, and project specifications before production begins.
- Coordinate material availability and workflow to maximize efficiency.
- Troubleshoot production issues and implement corrective actions as needed.
Team Leadership
- Lead, train, mentor, and support shop employees.
- Monitor employee performance and provide coaching and feedback.
- Assist with hiring, onboarding, and training new team members.
- Promote teamwork, accountability, and a positive work culture.
- Ensure employees understand and follow company policies and procedures.
Quality Control
- Ensure all products meet company and customer quality standards.
- Review completed work for accuracy and compliance with specifications.
- Identify quality concerns and implement corrective measures.
- Work closely with management and quality personnel to improve processes.
Safety & Maintenance
- Enforce workplace safety standards and OSHA compliance.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and promote safe work practices.
- Ensure machinery, tools, and equipment are properly maintained.
- Report equipment malfunctions and coordinate repairs as necessary.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient shop environment.
Required
- 5+ years of experience in sheet metal fabrication or manufacturing.
- 2+ years of supervisory or leadership experience.
- Strong knowledge of fabrication processes, including cutting, forming, welding, and assembly.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and specifications.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
Preferred
- Experience managing fabrication shop schedules and production planning.
- Knowledge of CNC machinery, press brakes, lasers, and fabrication equipment.
- OSHA safety training or certification.
- Forklift certification.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
