Multi-States Credit Union is eager to welcome a reliable, detail-driven Senior Accounting Specialist ready to make a real impact on our organization's financial strength.
As our Senior Accounting Specialist, you will keep our general ledger in top shape, prepare journal entries, process payroll records, monitor expenses, update budget spreadsheets, complete reconciliations, and support both financial and regulatory reporting.
You will be trusted to handle these responsibilities with precision, follow issues through to resolution, and help bring greater consistency to our financial processes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare and post routine, recurring, and adjusting journal entries.
- Maintain accurate general ledger records and supporting documentation.
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing processes.
- Research discrepancies, unusual transactions, and outstanding reconciling items.
- Prepare payroll journal entries and reconcile payroll reports to the general ledger; maintain payroll, paid-time-off, and related records with strict confidentiality
- Maintain and update budget spreadsheets with actual income and expense activity.
- Compare budgeted amounts to actual results and identify significant differences.
- Track departmental, vendor, and project expenses as assigned.
- Enter and process vendor invoices and payments in accordance with established approval procedures.
- Work with team members responsible for ACH, deposit operations, lending, accounts payable, and branch activity to resolve accounting differences.
- Collaborate with external auditors during annual audits by providing the necessary documentation and explanations regarding financial statements.
- Prepare financial schedules and supporting documentation for leadership and the Board of Directors.
- Review how operational activity affects assigned general ledger and settlement accounts.
- Serve as a trained backup for selected accounting or financial processes when needed.
Education and Expertise
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field preferred.
- Relevant accounting, payroll, banking, or financial institution experience may be considered in place of a degree; strong understanding of GAAP principles;
- Three or more years of experience in accounting, payroll, bookkeeping, or financial operations preferred.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data accurately.
- Familiarity with budgeting processes, financial report writing, forecasting techniques, and financial management strategies.
- Knowledge of tax regulations related to accounts receivable/payable processes is desirable.
- Credit union or banking accounting experience is strongly preferred.

Pay: $45,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
