Howard University Hospital seeks to hire a Nurse Coordinator in Varied departments, who will embrace our rich and historic tradition of excellence.
As a Nurse Coordinator, you will:
- Assumes direct patient care responsibilities where required to ensure adequate care levels. Coordinates patient care with support of Medical Assistants and Nurse Managers
- Serves as charge nurse for the respective shift with responsibility for the coordination and management of patient care of all patients.
- Serves as a resource person for unit staff, assists staff in identifying patient care needs or problems, and their professional needs and in selecting suitable problem-solving approaches.
- Serves as a preceptor at least six months of the year to nurse externs, interns, orientees, student nurses if needed.
- Educates and counsels patients concerning pertinent information for the medical condition. May prepare educational materials for patient use.
- Identifies educational opportunities in collaboration with Nurse Manager, Nurse Clinician, and staff and conduct in-services as needed on the unit
- Ensure all necessary testing and scheduling is complete prior to necessary procedures.
- Processes time and attendance information using the Kronos System and refers information to the Nurse Manager.
- Assumes other duties and responsibilities that are related and appropriate to the position and area. The above responsibilities are a general description of the level and nature of the work assigned to this classification and are not to be considered as all-inclusive.
Qualifications include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) required.
- Three (3) years progressive experience in Nursing in the clinical specialty to which assigned.
- Current license to practice Nursing in the District of Columbia.
- Certification in one clinical area related to area of practice.
- Current BLS certificate.

This position is covered under the DC Nurses Association (DCNA) collective bargaining agreement. Base pay range: $39.25–$63.89/hr, commensurate with experience and qualifications per the DCNA wage scale. Effective July 1, 2026, the base range will increase to $39.84–$64.85/hr per the updated collective bargaining agreement.
Additional compensation may include a night shift differential for qualifying evening/night shifts and a weekend differential for qualifying weekend shifts.
