About Gridless
Gridless is a rapidly growing battery technology company on a mission to deliver next-generation, sustainable power solutions for organizations facing the most demanding energy challenges. Based in Pennsauken, NJ, we design and manufacture hardened, intelligent off-grid battery systems engineered to perform where traditional power infrastructure can't reach.
Our technology powers mission-critical operations for law enforcement, first responders, utilities, construction, retail, and government clients, and has been trusted by the U.S. military for over a decade. Recognized as a "Stellar Startup" by the Philadelphia Inquirer and named the "Most Innovative Startup in the Delaware Valley" by the U.S. Congress, we're building a national brand — and the financial foundation to match.
About the Role
As Controller, you'll own the accounting function end to end, taking our books from good to great, giving leadership a clear and reliable view of the numbers, and building the financial processes and controls that let us scale with confidence.
This is a hands-on role for someone who likes to both do the work and build the system. You'll partner directly with leadership on cash flow, operational finance decisions, and investor reporting, while managing our full-time bookkeeper and coordinating with our outside tax firm. It's an ideal opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who wants ownership, visibility, and a clear path to grow into senior finance leadership as the company scales.
Responsibilities
- Own the monthly close and produce timely, accurate financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP
- Strengthen our QuickBooks Online environment as we scale — refining the chart of accounts, tightening reconciliation cadence, and ensuring GAAP-compliant books that everyone can rely on.
- Own cash flow management and forecasting, and deliver clear, regular cash reporting to leadership
- Build scalable financial processes, controls, and documentation from the ground up
- Prepare monthly and quarterly investor and board updates, including KPIs and management commentary
- Manage day-to-day accounting operations — AR, AP, billing, expense management, and payroll coordination
- Supervise and mentor our full-time bookkeeper, and grow the accounting function as needs evolve
- Coordinate with our external accounting firm on tax filings, year-end, and any audit or review needs
- Lead annual budgeting and periodic re-forecasting, and serve as a finance partner on operational questions
- Oversee accounting for both domestic sales and sales through our international distribution partners
- Progressively strengthen the company's financial records and controls to a level that would support future financing or a potential acquisition

- 5–10 years of progressive accounting experience, including a role as an Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller, or the #1 finance person at a small company

- Demonstrated experience owning cash flow management and forecasting
- Track record of building financial processes and controls from the ground up in a lean or growing environment
- Strong Excel skills and clear financial communication with non-finance leaders
