Position Summary:
The Swim Coach / Pool Deck Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality swimming
instruction to participants of all ages and skill levels. In addition to teaching duties, this position requires active involvement in the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the aquatic facility to ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all swimmers, staff, and guests.
Pay Rate $16.90/HR
Working Hours for Lessons Monday - Friday 3PM-7:30PM
Saturdays 9AM-12PM
Summer Camp Hours 10AM-3PM | Lessons 3PM-7:30PM
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
I. Swimming Instruction & Coaching
- Deliver structured swim lessons tailored to the ability level of each group, from beginners through experienced individuals.
- Assess individual swimmer skill levels and progress; provide constructive feedback and report to the Head Swim Coach.
- Demonstrate proper swimming techniques including floats, freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke.
- Monitor swimmers in the water at all times, enforcing pool rules and maintaining a safe aquatic environment.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with swimmers, families, and fellow staff members.
Pool Deck & Facility Operations:
II. Water Chemistry & Testing
- Test pool water chemistry a minimum of twice daily (morning and afternoon) using the facility’s manual water testing kit.
- Monitor and record chlorine and pH in the facility log.
- Report any out of range tested chemicals to head coach immediately
IV. Pool Tarping & Un-tarping
- Install and secure the pool safety/solar cover (tarp) at the close of each session or end of day.
- Follow all safety protocols when handling pool covers to prevent entrapment hazards.
V. General Pool Deck Upkeep & Maintenance
- Inspect and organize pool equipment (kickboards, lane lines, emergency equipment, etc.) before and after each session; ensure equipment is clean, functioning, and stored properly.
- Empty trash receptacles on the pool deck as needed throughout the shift.
- Monitor locker rooms and restrooms adjacent to the pool area for cleanliness and safety; report issues to facility maintenance staff.
- Assist with seasonal opening and closing procedures for the aquatic facility.
- Support the setup and breakdown of pool equipment for special events, competitions, or programming changes.
- Immediately report any equipment malfunctions, structural damage, or safety hazards to the Head Coach or Aquatics Director.
Safety & Emergency Responsibilities:
- Enforce all facility rules and safety regulations consistently with swimmers, guests, and visitors.
- Conduct and participate in regular emergency action plan (EAP) drills.
- Complete all required incident and accident reports accurately and promptly.
- Ensure the pool area is free of unauthorized access before, during, and after programming hours.
Physical & Environmental Conditions:
This position requires regular work in an outdoor or indoor aquatic environment subject to heat, humidity, chlorine exposure, and wet/slippery surfaces. The employee may be required to enter the water as part of instructional duties. Work schedule may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays depending on programming needs.
Pay: $16.90 per hour
