Duties
- Deliver comprehensive Drivers Education classes that cover traffic laws, vehicle codes, defensive driving techniques, and emergency response procedures for transportation.
- Conduct engaging classroom lessons that incorporate teaching methods suitable for diverse learners, including bilingual or multilingual students when applicable.
- Supervise practical driving sessions, demonstrating safe driving practices such as vehicle control, quick response to traffic changes, emergency stop procedures, and heavy lifting when necessary.
- Assess student progress through written tests and practical evaluations, providing constructive feedback to foster improvement.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, student performance, and course completion documentation in accordance with school policies.
- Communicate effectively with students and parents regarding course requirements, behavioral management strategies, and safety protocols.
- Stay updated on current traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety standards to ensure instruction remains accurate and relevant.
Skills
- Proven experience in bus driving, commercial driving, or school bus driving with a strong understanding of traffic laws and vehicle codes.
- Excellent communication skills in English; bilingual abilities are a plus for working with diverse student populations.
- Knowledge of defensive driving techniques, emergency response procedures for transportation, CPR certification, and first aid training.
- Ability to respond quickly to traffic changes and handle emergency stop procedures confidently under pressure.
- Mechanical knowledge of vehicles to assist with basic troubleshooting or vehicle safety checks.
- Experience working with children or senior care environments demonstrates patience and effective behavior management skills.
- Strong teaching abilities combined with writing skills to develop lesson plans and instructional materials tailored to different learning styles.
