Summary:
The Telepsychiatrist provides timely psychiatric evaluation, treatment, and clinical stabilization for employees participating in the Miami-Dade County Public Schools workers’ compensation program.
The role supports the program’s objectives of providing psychiatric access within 48 hours of referral, promoting functional recovery, and helping employees safely remain at or return to work when medically appropriate. The success of the program relies on coordinated scheduling and physicians providing focused clinical care, objective clinical reasoning, practical treatment recommendations, responsive communication, and timely documentation within established program workflows.
Clinical Responsibilities:
- Conduct psychiatric evaluations through telehealth.
- Review relevant medical, occupational, and referral records.
- Provide diagnostic assessment, treatment planning, medication management, and short-term follow-up care.
- Evaluate the effect of psychiatric symptoms on functional and occupational capacity.
- Assess the relationship between presenting psychiatric symptoms and the reported workplace injury when clinically or programmatically required.
- Provide appropriate work-status, functional limitation, accommodation, and return-to-work recommendations.
- Support short-term clinical stabilization and functional improvement.
- Coordinate care with authorized clinical and program representatives.
- Refer patients to a higher or more specialized level of care when indicated.
- Complete clear, structured documentation that supports clinical findings, treatment progression, functional status, and recommendations.
Minimum Qualifications
- MD or DO degree from an accredited institution.
- Completion of an accredited psychiatry residency program.
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry through the ABPN.
- Active, unrestricted Florida medical license.
- Active DEA registration meeting applicable Florida requirements.
- Ability to provide services through a secure and private telehealth environment.
- Ability to meet applicable professional liability insurance requirements.
- Strong psychiatric assessment, clinical judgment, communication, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work within coordinated clinical workflows and service standards.
Preferred Experience
- Workers’ compensation, occupational psychiatry, or occupational behavioral health.
- Disability-focused assessment or return-to-work planning.
- Work-related causation and functional capacity assessment.
- Telepsychiatry and short-term medication management.
- Structured documentation in regulated healthcare settings.
- Multidisciplinary care coordination.
