Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and compassionate Activities Assistant to enrich the lives of our residents through engaging and meaningful activities. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in event planning, recreational therapy, and senior care, with experience working in assisted living or nursing home environments. This role involves coordinating diverse programs that promote social interaction, mental stimulation, and overall well-being for our residents.
Duties
- Plan, organize, and facilitate a variety of recreational activities tailored to residents’ interests and abilities, including memory care and dementia-specific programs.
- Collaborate with staff to develop activity schedules that enhance residents’ quality of life while respecting individual needs and preferences.
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) as needed during events to promote participation and independence.
- Maintain detailed records of resident participation and feedback to continuously improve program offerings.
- Foster a positive environment that encourages socialization, engagement, and emotional support among residents.
- Coordinate special events such as celebrations, outings, or themed activities that promote community involvement.
- Communicate effectively with residents, families, and team members to ensure activities align with care plans and individual goals.
Experience
Candidates should have prior experience in activity planning within assisted living or long-term care settings. Experience working with individuals with disabilities or dementia is highly desirable. A background in recreational therapy, social work, or caregiving—particularly in nursing homes or home & community care—is preferred. Strong communication skills are essential for engaging residents effectively. Familiarity with aging issues counseling and assisting with ADLs will support success in this role. Prior experience managing schedules and developing innovative programs will be considered an asset.
