Position Summary
Bold Steps Behavioral Health is seeking an exceptional Big Book Facilitator, Alumni Coordinator & Lead Peer Support Specialist to help strengthen our recovery community and make a lasting impact on the lives of those we serve. This role is built for someone who has a deep, working knowledge of the Twelve Steps and the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous — not just familiarity with the material, but the ability to bring it to life in a group setting and help clients genuinely connect with it.
The ideal candidate is someone who lives the program, can teach it, and can inspire others to engage with it at a meaningful level. They are positive, energetic, and recovery-focused, with the ability to facilitate powerful groups, build real relationships with clients, and stay connected with alumni long after treatment has ended. This person will serve as a teacher, mentor, role model, and community builder within our program.
We are not looking for someone who simply checks boxes. We are looking for someone who is on fire for recovery, eager to grow, and ready to make a genuine contribution to the lives of the people we serve.
Essential Responsibilities
Big Book Group Facilitation
- Facilitate daily Big Book and Twelve Step groups with depth, energy, and consistency — this is the core of the role.
- Lead clients through the Big Book chapter by chapter, connecting the text to real life and real recovery in a way that is engaging, relatable, and meaningful.
- Facilitate Step work discussions, spiritual principle groups, and recovery lifestyle development sessions grounded in AA literature and the Twelve Step model.
- Create a group environment that is safe, challenging, and transformative — where clients feel both supported and held accountable.
- Continuously deepen your own knowledge of the Big Book, AA history, and Twelve Step principles to bring fresh insight and perspective to every group.
- Collaborate with the clinical team to align group content with client treatment goals and reinforce therapeutic progress.
- Develop and refine group curriculum, supplemental materials, and educational content rooted in the Twelve Step model.
Peer Support & Recovery Coaching
- Provide peer-based support, mentorship, and encouragement to clients throughout their treatment experience.
- Serve as a positive, visible role model in recovery — someone clients can look to as an example of what the program can produce.
- Help clients identify recovery goals, build recovery capital, and develop a concrete plan for long-term success.
- Support clients in navigating challenges, overcoming barriers, and staying engaged in treatment.
- Connect clients with community resources, sponsorship opportunities, and recovery support networks.
Alumni Program Development & Management
- Coordinate, develop, and expand the facility's alumni program to maintain connection with graduates after discharge.
- Maintain consistent outreach with alumni through calls, emails, text messaging, social media, and recovery events.
- Organize alumni meetings, speaker meetings, recovery celebrations, workshops, and special events.
- Foster ongoing relationships with alumni to strengthen long-term recovery and deepen community involvement.
- Track alumni engagement and identify opportunities to improve participation and outcomes.
Recovery Community Engagement
- Help build and maintain a strong recovery culture throughout the organization.
- Encourage client involvement in AA/NA meetings, sponsorship, service work, and community engagement.
- Serve as an ambassador of recovery both within the facility and in the broader community.
- Support community outreach initiatives and recovery-related events.
Qualifications
- Deep, working knowledge of the Twelve Steps and the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous — ability to teach it, not just reference it.
- Demonstrated experience facilitating Twelve Step or Big Book groups in a treatment, recovery, or community setting.
- Genuine passion for recovery and helping others achieve lasting change.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and public speaking skills.
- Experience in peer support, recovery coaching, behavioral health, or substance use treatment preferred.
- Peer Recovery Support Specialist (CPRS) certification or willingness to obtain.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation preferred.
Desired Attributes
The ideal candidate:
- Has lived experience in recovery and demonstrates the principles of the program in daily life.
- Can walk into a group room and command it — engaging, teaching, and challenging clients at the same time.
- Knows the Big Book inside and out and can make it accessible to people at all stages of recovery.
- Brings energy, positivity, and accountability into every interaction.
- Is self-motivated, dependable, and takes initiative without being asked.
- Leads through service, integrity, humility, and example.
- Wants to help build something special and become a cornerstone of a best-in-class recovery community.
