Area Director
Reports To: Director of Operations
Employment Status: Full-Time, Exempt
Start Date: First Week of August (Exact date to be determined)
Location: Boys & Girls Club of Rutland County (Multiple Sites)
Position Summary
The Area Director is responsible for providing leadership and operational oversight for multiple Boys & Girls Club program sites. This position ensures high-quality youth programming, licensing compliance, staff supervision, and positive relationships with youth, families, schools, and community partners.
The Area Director leads a team of Program Directors, Assistant Directors, Group Leads, and Youth Development Professionals while supporting a positive and consistent culture across all assigned sites. This position begins during the first week of August to prepare for the upcoming school year, including staff onboarding, site readiness, training, and program planning.
Essential ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Staff Supervision
- Directly supervise assigned Program Directors, Assistant Directors, Group Leads, and Youth Development Professionals.
- Coach, mentor, and evaluate staff to promote professional growth and accountability.
- Conduct regular site visits to provide support and ensure consistency.
- Assist with interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and training new staff.
- Develop staff schedules and ensure appropriate coverage.
Program Operations
- Oversee daily operations of assigned Club sites.
- Ensure programs are safe, engaging, and aligned with Boys & Girls Club standards.
- Support staff with behavior management and youth engagement.
- Monitor attendance and enrollment trends while identifying opportunities for growth.
- Assist with special events, school vacations, summer programming, and field trips.
Licensing & Compliance
- Ensure all assigned sites remain in compliance with Vermont Child Care Licensing Regulations.
- Complete regular site observations and readiness checks.
- Ensure staff files, required trainings, attendance records, incident reports, and documentation remain accurate and up to date.
- Address compliance concerns promptly and communicate with the Director of Operations as needed.
Family & Community Relations
- Build positive relationships with youth, families, school personnel, and community partners.
- Respond to parent questions and concerns in a timely and professional manner.
- Represent the Boys & Girls Club professionally within the community.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Complete monthly unit reports and required organizational reports.
- Monitor supply needs and assist with purchasing requests.
- Maintain accurate records, inventories, and program documentation.
- Support registration, enrollment, and subsidy processes.
- Assist with budgeting and responsible use of program resources.
School Year Preparation
Beginning in the first week of August, the Area Director will help prepare assigned sites for the upcoming school year by:
- Hiring and onboarding new staff.
- Completing staff training and orientation.
- Reviewing licensing requirements and ensuring staff compliance.
- Organizing supplies, equipment, and site materials.
- Developing staff schedules.
- Meeting with school administrators and community partners.
- Preparing program spaces for opening day.
Qualifications
- Associate degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Minimum of two years of experience supervising youth programs or staff.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Experience working with school-age children.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and locations simultaneously.
- Valid driver's license with reliable transportation.
- Ability to pass all required background checks and meet Vermont childcare licensing requirements.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to travel regularly between assigned Club locations.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift up to 40 pounds, and actively participate in youth activities.
- Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Schedule
- Full-time, year-round position.
- Typical schedule during the school year is Monday through Friday, with occasional evenings, weekends, or special events as needed.
- Start date is the first week of August to allow adequate preparation for the school year.

Pay: $42,000.00 - $44,000.00 per year
