Job Summary:
The Ready-to-Eat Department/Packaging Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the efficient and safe operation of the RTE packaging lines within a meat manufacturing facility. This role involves supervising a team of packaging employees, ensuring product quality, maintaining production schedules, and adhering to all food safety and sanitation regulations. The supervisor will also be responsible for optimizing packaging processes, minimizing waste, and contributing to a positive and productive work environment.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of packaging employees, including assigning tasks, providing training, and evaluating performance. This includes ensuring all employees are following proper procedures and adhering to safety protocols.
- Monitor packaging lines to ensure efficient operation, product quality, and adherence to production schedules. This involves troubleshooting equipment issues, making adjustments as needed, and escalating more complex problems to maintenance staff.
- Ensure compliance with all food safety and sanitation regulations, including HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) standards. This includes conducting regular inspections, maintaining accurate records, and taking corrective actions when necessary.
- Manage inventory of packaging materials, including ordering supplies, monitoring usage, and minimizing waste. This involves working with the purchasing department to ensure adequate stock levels and negotiating favorable pricing.
- Implement and maintain quality control procedures to ensure products meet established standards. This includes conducting regular quality checks, identifying and addressing any deviations, and working with the quality assurance team to resolve issues.
- Train new employees in packaging procedures, safety protocols, and quality standards. This involves developing and delivering training, providing ongoing coaching, and ensuring all employees are equipped with proper training and support
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment, including enforcing safety rules, conducting regular safety inspections, and addressing any hazards. This includes promoting a culture of safety and encouraging employees to report any concerns.
- Analyze production data to identify areas for improvement, such as reducing waste, increasing efficiency, and improving product quality.
- Communicate effectively with other departments, such as production, maintenance, and quality assurance, to ensure smooth operations. This includes attending meetings, providing updates, and resolving any issues that arise.
- Ensure all packaging equipment is properly maintained and serviced. This involves scheduling regular maintenance, coordinating repairs, and ensuring all equipment is operating safely and efficiently.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., food science, manufacturing) preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a food manufacturing environment, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of food safety regulations, including HACCP and GMP.
- USDA experience preferred.
- Experience with packaging equipment and processes.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently; skills (e.g., ) a plus.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds.
