Athletic Trainer
-
Provide "Athletic Training Services" to student athletes under the direction of the team physician or by written referral from a physician, and in accordance with the state athletic training practice act.

Maintain appropriate general treatment orders to be reviewed annually and approved by the team physician.

Provide athletic training services for all home athletic contests and away varsity football games. If a conflict arises between an away varsity football game and a home contest, the varsity football event will supersede.

Assesses and administers first aid to injured athletes during practices and sporting events, along with the appropriate documentation.

Act as liaison between family physicians and specialists, the school district, athletes, and their parents.

Maintain accurate records of injuries, treatments, and provide insurance claim forms for sports injuries treated by a physician.

Develop and maintain a budget for the athletic training program.

Invests in developing strong relationships with associated physicians and physical therapists.

Maintains a clean, safe, and professional environment at the clinics and school. Inform the supervisor of any malfunctioning equipment.

Schedule and be present for pre-participation sports physicals.

Ensures that proper return to play criteria are met before allowing participation by athlete or patient, ensuring that the best interest of the athlete or patient is always the priority.

Provide the coaches and athletic director with a list of athletes medically eligible to compete under district and state rules and regulations.

Assist the athletic director as requested.
Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, follows Utah State Office of Education (USBE) and Tooele County School District (TCSD) standards to provide athletic teams with assistance during home games.
Essential Functions

Teaches knowledge and understanding of physiology, health and nutrition, anatomy, and biological functions.

Develops students' concepts in nutrition, food groups, diet, caloric intake, vitamins, and related topics.

Conducts ongoing assessment of student-athletes' growth and progress after assistance has been given due to injury.

Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn about current developments in the athletic training field.

Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping of student athletes' injuries and treatments.

Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially with the school administration, athletic director, and coaches.

Uses appropriate training aids and other supplies and equipment, and maintains inventory records.

Equipment
May use standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone as well as standard athletic training equipment.
Travel Requirements
Travels to school district buildings and travels to games as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of current health education and athletic training best practices.

Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws and regulations regarding sports and athletic training and students, as well as relating to sport participation.

Knowledge of physiology, health and nutrition, biology and biological functions, anatomy, hygiene, exercise, and the best ways to promote physical and mental well-being.

Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.

Qualifications Profile
Applicants must have a current athletic trainer certification or an equivalent.
Certification/License:

USBE Athletic Trainer License

Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
Education
-
Degree or certification in athletic training or equivalent.
Experience
Successful prior work as an athletic trainer is preferred.
Contract:
During the sports seasons for the school year.
