The Jewish Community Center of Greater Albuquerque, JCC, has an exciting opportunity for a Cook/Music Teacher. This position reports to the FEC Director. The Cook / Music Teacher plays a dual role in supporting the daily operations and enrichment of the FEC program. This position is responsible for planning and preparing nutritious, child-friendly meals in accordance with dietary guidelines, while also providing engaging, developmentally appropriate music instruction that fosters creativity, cultural awareness, and a love of music in young children. Key Responsibilities
Culinary Duties
- Plan, prepare, and serve healthy meals and snacks in compliance with USDA and local health regulations
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen environment
- Monitor food inventory and place orders as needed
- Accommodate children’s allergies and dietary restrictions
- Ensure proper food storage and safety procedures are followed
Music Education Duties
- Develop and implement a music curriculum appropriate for preschool-aged children
- Lead group music sessions incorporating singing, rhythm, movement, and basic instruments
- Encourage participation, creativity, and self-expression
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate music into the broader curriculum
- Prepare children for performances or family events as appropriate
- Teach Piano lessons to the oldest children in the school
Qualifications
- Experience in food preparation, preferably in a childcare or institutional setting
- Basic knowledge of nutrition and food safety regulations (Food Handler’s Permit a plus)
- At least 5+ years experience working with young children in a music or educational setting
- Familiarity with Jewish culture, traditions, and holidays (preferred)
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a dynamic environment
- Warm, patient, and engaging personality
Education Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Degree in Music, Music Education
Working Conditions
- Combination of kitchen environment and classroom settings
- May require standing for extended periods and lifting moderate weights
- Schedule typically follows FEC hours with occasional evening events
