Job Summary:
Provides comprehensive perioperative nursing care as a Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA). Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care before, during, and after surgical procedures. Assists the operating surgeon during surgery, coordinates patient care, promotes patient safety, and collaborates with the surgical team to achieve optimal clinical outcomes.
### Job Requirements
**Education and Work Experience:**
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing: Required
- Completion of an approved Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) program: Required
- Minimum three years of scrub and circulating experience in an acute care operating room: Required
- Annual surgeon competency review: Required
**Licenses/Certifications:**
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice: Required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification: Required
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification: Required
- Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR): Required
- Professional Liability Insurance: Required
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS): Preferred
### Essential Functions
- Provides comprehensive nursing care throughout the perioperative process.
- Assists the surgeon during operative procedures within the RNFA scope of practice.
- Performs patient assessments and develops individualized nursing care plans.
- Monitors patient condition and recognizes changes requiring immediate intervention.
- Administers medications and treatments in accordance with established policies and standards.
- Demonstrates proficiency in surgical assisting techniques, including tissue handling, exposure, hemostasis, wound closure, suturing, positioning, prepping, and draping.
- Reviews patient history, diagnostic results, and clinical findings to support safe surgical care.
- Maintains accurate, timely, and complete clinical documentation.
- Educates patients and families regarding surgical procedures, recovery, and discharge instructions.
- Adheres to infection prevention, sterile technique, patient safety, and quality assurance standards.
- Participates in emergency response and perioperative patient management.
- Assists with orientation, education, and mentoring of staff.
- Collaborates effectively with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nurses, and the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
- Utilizes departmental resources efficiently while supporting quality improvement initiatives.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
