Position Overview
The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for designing functional, reliable, and cost-effective heavy-duty vehicle components. This role supports the engineering analysis, design, redesign, development, integration, and execution of components for both new and existing vehicle platforms. The ideal candidate combines strong mechanical design expertise with hands-on problem-solving skills and the ability to collaborate across engineering disciplines.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Design & Engineering

Design and develop heavy-duty vehicle components and systems.
- Perform engineering analysis, calculations, investigations, and design activities in accordance with Oshkosh and industry engineering standards.
- Evaluate designs for performance, safety, manufacturability, reliability, and cost.
- Create and review layouts, engineering drawings, specifications, and bills of materials.
- Select appropriate parts, materials, and components based on engineering requirements.
- Utilize analytical and mathematical modeling to optimize system performance and product designs.
- Ensure compliance with engineering standards, drawing practices, and company procedures.
Project Execution

Lead projects or major portions of projects with moderate complexity.
- Manage multiple engineering assignments simultaneously while meeting project timelines.
- Support product integration for new and existing vehicle platforms.
- Prepare technical reports, quotations, proposals, presentations, and engineering documentation.
- Maintain project records, research documentation, and historical engineering files.
Technical Support

Provide engineering support to manufacturing and production teams.
- Investigate, analyze, and resolve engineering issues reported through verbal and written communication.
- Communicate technical status updates to internal stakeholders.
- Collaborate with suppliers and cross-functional teams to resolve technical challenges.
Leadership & Collaboration

Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers, designers, and technicians.
- Work closely with manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and other engineering disciplines.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with suppliers, customers, and internal stakeholders.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and engineering best practices.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field
- 3+ years of engineering experience
- Experience using Creo CAD
- Mechanical, electrical, or software engineering support experience
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent troubleshooting abilities
Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering
- Experience designing automotive or heavy-duty vehicle systems
- Experience with advanced CAD software
- Windchill Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) experience
- Experience supporting weapons systems or defense programs
- Experience in robotics, electrification, or other complex engineering environments
