(This recruitment series is to fill two open positions within the Fleet Services team in the Public Works Department. To be considered qualified, an applicant must meet the minimum requirements for one of the following three levels of the Fleet Service Technician positions.)
An employee in this class is responsible for the scheduling and completion of maintenance and repair of all City vehicles and equipment. Work is under the general supervision of the Fleet Services Division Manager who primarily reviews work through results obtained.
Fleet Technician I:
Grade 13 - Monthly Salary $5,287.00 - $6,727.00
Fleet Services Technician II:
Grade 14 - Monthly Salary $5,552.00 - $7,064.00
Fleet Services Technician III:
Grade 16 - Monthly Salary $6,120.00 - $7,788.00 EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Performs routine tests, services and repairs on vehicles and mechanical equipment.
Most situations are resolved using standard procedures and established guidelines. Requires knowledge of procedures and the ability to evaluate and select the correct solution from defined alternatives.
Carry out, and evaluate preventive maintenance schedules for all vehicles and mechanical equipment, either personally, or through outside vendors.
Operate a variety of diagnostic instruments and hand, electric, and air driven tools.
With supervision, inspect, adjust, and replace necessary units and related parts in the performance of repair and maintenance work.
Follow approved shop procedures. Purchase parts and supplies as needed.
Provides emergency field assistance to disabled equipment as necessary.
Maintain records and utilize software for Fleet Operations and other specialized maintenance records.
Regularly operate a motor vehicle to attend to vehicle maintenance-related issues and inspections at various City locations.
Operate a variety of vehicles and equipment required to perform duties, including but not limited to automobiles, backhoes, pickup/utility trucks, 12-yard dump trucks, sweepers, chain/trimming saws, snowplows/blowers, miscellaneous power and hand tools, graders, weed eaters, lawn edgers, loaders, riding and manual lawn mowers, large rotary mowers, and farm tractors.
Supports the operation and utilization of Asset Management for planning, scheduling, and documenting work activities with respect to priorities identified by the Asset Management Plan.
Assists with asset management plan development, supporting the identification of asset inventory and condition, calculating business risk evaluations, determining asset net present value and life cycle costs, and developing alternatives for cost-effective operation and maintenance and long-term investment.
Supports condition assessment of existing assets to improve and enhance fleet planning and budgeting.
Performs other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The employee is required to stand, walk, and use hands to handle or operate objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk or hear.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds and rarely lift and/or move more than one hundred (100) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:
Telephone system, mobile radio, copy machine, fax machine, computers (including asset management software, Microsoft Office programs, internet, and similar programs); Operate motorized vehicles for mechanical testing purposes, power and hand tools and equipment for vehicle and mechanical system work; mechanic's tools including jacks, hydraulic lifts, air tools, and other tools required for minor repairs and routine maintenance of motorized vehicles; electronic vehicle diagnostic equipment; computer, calculator, phone; copy and fax machine, mobile radio.
This position requires use of City vehicles.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts or in outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals.
The noise level in the field environment is usually moderate, except during certain duties when noise levels may be loud.
Employees in this position are required to work in areas or around equipment which may meet or exceed the OSHA Hearing Conservation sound level. Employees in this position will participate in the City of Redmond Hearing Conservation Program.
Employee may be required to work evenings, weekends, or holidays.
