The Department of Psychiatry
The UF Department of Psychiatry is a leader in innovative, evidence-based treatment programs for a variety of mental health and substance use disorders. Treatment teams within UF Health Psychiatry specialize in dual diagnosis. They are experienced in managing treatment plans for multiple co-occurring disorders. Clinical faculty, fellows and residents provide subspecialty care using transcranial magnetic stimulation, parent-child interaction therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy and specific treatments for obsessive-compulsive disorder and addiction.
We are nationally recognized for our research on addiction, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, physicians and health professional’s substance abuse, Tourette’s disorder, basic and clinical psychopharmacology, neuroimmunology, gene-environment interactions in abnormal repetitive movements, dynamic functional magnetic resonance imaging and proteomics.
UF Health Psychiatric Hospital
Formerly known as Shands Vista, UF Health Psychiatric Hospital is located on a private, picturesque, 18-acre campus that offers comfort and serenity to people in crisis. Our 81-bed facility provides a full range of confidential, effective services. UF Health Shands Psychiatric Hospital consists of a child/adolescent unit, an adult inpatient addiction unit, two adult psychiatric units and a geriatric psychiatry unit. UF Health Psychiatric Hospital partners with our UF Florida Recovery Center.

The UF Health Florida Recovery Center is Florida’s premiere addiction treatment program, ranked number one in the state of Florida and number 6 in the US by Newsweek. Our multidisciplinary treatments are supported by advanced research from stellar facilities, such as the Evelyn F. and William L. McKnight Brain Institute of the University of Florida, where we are uncovering the mechanisms of addiction and are developing new treatments. Our program combines the established principles of recovery and evidence-based addiction treatments with the knowledge and capabilities of a leading academic medical center. Calling upon the skills of board-certified addiction medicine specialists, as well as psychiatrists and licensed behavioral health counselors, treatment encompasses the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of recovery followed by the well-established and proven 12-step method.
