Summary:
The Legal Payment Processor is responsible for the accurate, timely, and compliant processing of all incoming debtor payments within the firm, as well as administrative tasks for the accounting team. This role plays a critical part in maintaining the integrity of client accounts by ensuring proper application of funds, resolving discrepancies, and supporting overall accounts receivable operations. The ideal candidate is meticulous, highly organized, and experienced in handling high-volume financial transactions within a law firm environment.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 to 5+ years of experience in payment processing
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or related field preferred, but not necessarily required
- Strong ability to multitask and manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- High-volume data entry experience with strong accuracy
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to resolve payment discrepancies.
- Highly organized, dependable, meticulous, and initiative-taking
- Strong mathematical and accounting skills

Key Responsibilities:
- Accurately process and apply incoming payments from various sources, including checks, credit cards, lockbox, wires, and ACH transactions
- Post complex payments and apply contractual adjustments to customer accounts.
- Reconcile payment transactions and ensure accurate account balances.
- Collaborate with the Firm Administrator and Collections team to resolve posting discrepancies.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of payment applications, terms, and conditions.
- Identify, investigate, and resolve payment discrepancies or unidentified funds.
- Monitor and respond to payment-related inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
- Provide high-quality customer service to clients, debtors, and internal team members.
- Support additional projects and tasks assigned by management.
