About the role:
Dauphin County Technical School is seeking a dependable, flexible, and team‑oriented individual to serve as a Substitute Cafeteria Aide on an as‑needed basis. This position supports the daily operation of our school cafeteria during staff absences and helps ensure students receive safe, nutritious meals in a clean and welcoming environment.
Substitute cafeteria aides assist with basic food preparation, meal service, cleanup, and general kitchen support. This includes serving students in a friendly and efficient manner, maintaining the cleanliness of serving areas and kitchen spaces, and restocking supplies as needed throughout the day. Individuals in this role are expected to follow all food safety and sanitation requirements and to work cooperatively as part of the cafeteria team.
Substitutes play a key role in helping maintain smooth cafeteria operations and supporting a positive dining experience for students and staff.
Skills and experience that matter for this role:
Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent preferred

Previous food service or kitchen experience a plus

Ability to follow verbal and written instructions

Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 30 lbs

Strong teamwork and communication skills

Willingness to work flexible hours and respond to short-notice assignments
Primary Responsibilities:

Assist in preparing and serving meals in a timely and sanitary manner

Set up serving areas and ensure proper portion control

Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently

Clean and sanitize kitchen surfaces, utensils, and equipment

Follow all food safety and hygiene standards

Interact with students and staff in a friendly, respectful manner

Support the cafeteria team during staff absences or peak service times
Salary:
Starting salary begins at $16.50 per hour
