JOB DESCRIPTION
**Extensive fire alarm experience a plus
JOB TITLE: Operations – Electrician
REPORTS TO: Director of Operations
JOB GOAL: To assist in maintaining District facilities and structures by providing
excellent specialized maintenance services
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Five (5) years experience in the designated trade/skill area or a combination of
training/experience
- Experience in school facility maintenance preferred
- Possess and maintain appropriate State or National card, certification, or licensure
for the assigned trade or skill area
- Possess and maintain a valid driver's license
- Meet Hoover City Schools' insurable driver requirements
- Demonstrated skills using standard tools, materials, methods, and practices of the
assigned trade or skill area
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the specific trades
- Ability to read, interpret and/or follow plans, directions, and specifications
- Ability to prioritize tasks
- Ability to make estimates of time and material needed for efficient project
completion
- Ability to climb and work from scaffolding, ladders, and heights
- Ability to engage in prolonged sitting or standing, stooping, kneeling, crawling,
bending, turning, and reaching
- Strength and agility to lift and carry objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds; ability
to exert up to seventy-five (75) pounds of force
- Ability to work in locations involving heights or confined spaces
- Ability and willingness to work indoors and outdoors year-round in noisy, crowded
environments, in various temperatures and weather conditions
- Ability and willingness to work after hours, weekends, or holidays if necessary
- Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance
- Ability to meet suitability criteria under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999
and Act No. 2002-457
- Such Alternatives to the above qualifications as state, federal, and local law and
the Board may require
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, mission, goals, and
priorities
2. Constructs, maintains, services, inspects, and/or repairs District structures as
assigned
3. Maintains and repairs items or systems in assigned skill or trade area; performs
inspections, diagnoses problems, and executes services as needed
4. Estimates materials and resources necessary for completion of jobs
5. Completes work order assignments in a timely manner without close supervision;
completes all projects in compliance with trade standards
6. Prioritizes tasks and uses time wisely
7. Uses problem-solving skills, sound judgment, and effective interpersonal skills to
supervise other designated maintenance personnel when assigned
8. Engages in work-related training to increase knowledge and skills as directed
and/or for advancement
9. Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters
10. Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential problems and/or opportunities for
improvement in areas of responsibility
11. Reports potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to appropriate
administrative or supervisory personnel
12. Responds to inquiries, requests, and constructive feedback in a timely and positive
manner
13. Maintains and submits reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and
accurate manner
14. Properly uses and cares for tools, equipment, and material resources of the school
system
15. Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and
procedures
16. Adheres to local Board policies, administrative procedures, and other like
directives, as well as state, federal, and local laws
17. Performs other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s)
