EVERETT HIGH SCHOOL CONNECTIONS SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHER
The Everett High School Connections program will provide an in-house alternative setting for students as they work to establish and maintain effective academic and social and emotional progress. Students will develop and utilize safe coping strategies to try and eventually reintegrate into general education classrooms. This will allow students to graduate high school with skills necessary for successful transitions to post-secondary education and/or career opportunities. The Connections Program offers a three pronged approach: Academic, Therapeutic, and Behavioral.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE POSITION:
The Teacher promotes a positive learning environment and delivers instruction to students whose educational needs are primarily the result of significant social, emotional, and behavioral challenges. The teacher is responsible for assessment of each student's individual academic and behavioral needs (grades 9-12).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Assesses students' academic and behavioral needs

Identifies students' individual needs and collaborates with Connections’ team to create individual success plans.

Plans, selects, and teaches academic curriculum using the current Massachusetts Social Studies frameworks, grade level and credit courses, in conjunction with supporting individual success plans.
- Implements individually designed success plans, coordinating with behavior/clinical staff, parents when available, other related services staff

Communicates with students during instruction and interpersonal interaction using language structure, tone, and body language that promotes positive student behavior, conflict resolution and problem solving, effective management of power struggles, and applies proactive strategies for management of escalating behavior

Confers frequently with consulting education staff, students, and, as appropriate, with parents concerning both academic and behavioral progress or concerns of all assigned students

Collaborates with social studies department chair to review lesson plans, content, and teaching practice
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Current MA teaching license in Social Studies and SEI endorsement.

Knowledge and experience in teaching students with social/emotional/behavioral challenges

Experience in alternative education setting/program (preferred).

Ability to assess and teach academic skills (grades 9-12) in social studies.

Skilled at working with other professionals such as counselors, social workers, psychologists, and psychiatrists as resources for planning and delivery of individualized success plans.

Written and oral communication skills sufficient to perform essential functions

Ability to attend Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for Schools (TCIS) training provided by district in August.
Salary:
Salary for this position will be based on the Everett Teachers Association Collective Bargaining Agreement. -SY 26-27 Pay Range - $65,178-$125,654.
