As a CDL Theory Instructor, you will play a key role in preparing students to become safe, knowledgeable, and professional commercial drivers. This position is focused primarily on delivering the indoor classroom portion of FleetForce’s approved CDL curriculum.
The instructor will teach a recurring one week Theory course to new groups of students. Using engaging teaching methods, classroom discussions, demonstrations, and knowledge assessments, the instructor will help students understand the regulations, safety practices, and foundational concepts required to operate a commercial motor vehicle.
This is an indoor classroom based position. Outdoor skills course or behind the wheel instruction may occasionally be needed to provide operational coverage. However, the primary responsibility of this role is teaching the one week classroom Theory curriculum.

Job Responsibilities
- Deliver the recurring one week CDL Theory curriculum in an indoor classroom setting
- Teach students the knowledge and safety principles required to become professional commercial drivers
- Explain vehicle inspections, including the purpose and steps of a commercial vehicle pre trip inspection
- Provide classroom instruction on basic vehicle controls, backing procedures, coupling, and uncoupling tractor and trailer units
- Teach the principles of safely operating commercial vehicles on rural roads, highways, and city roadways
- Instruct students on federal and state transportation regulations, driver responsibilities, and safe driving practices
- Present information clearly using lectures, discussions, demonstrations, videos, and other approved instructional materials
- Encourage classroom participation and provide additional support to students who may need help understanding the material
- Administer quizzes, knowledge assessments, and other required evaluations
- Monitor student attendance, participation, progress, and classroom performance
- Prepare and maintain accurate student records, including training activities, assessment results, and performance evaluations
- Maintain an organized, professional, and positive classroom environment
- Follow FleetForce curriculum standards, policies, and regulatory requirements
- Provide occasional outdoor skills course or behind the wheel instructional coverage when operationally necessary
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Lead Instructor or School Director
Job Requirements
- Valid Florida Class A Commercial Driver’s License
- Minimum of two years of commercial motor vehicle driving experience
- Current DOT Medical Card or the ability to obtain one
- Clean driving history
- Ability to pass all required preemployment drug and alcohol testing
- Strong verbal communication and classroom presentation skills
- Ability to explain technical information in a clear and understandable manner
- Comfortable speaking, teaching, and presenting in front of groups
- Strong organizational, time management, and recordkeeping skills
- Ability to complete assigned tasks efficiently and meet required deadlines
- Ability to work independently while also contributing as part of the instructional team
- Basic computer skills and the ability to use classroom technology and training materials
- Willingness to occasionally assist with outdoor or behind the wheel instruction when coverage is needed
- Willingness to work weekends as needed, as FleetForce operates seven days per week
