Primary Purpose:
The Cashier - Retail Staff position serves as a front-line representative of United Ag and plays an important role in providing knowledgeable, friendly, and efficient service to our customers and cooperative members.
This position is responsible for accurately processing customer transactions while also supporting the overall daily operation of the store. Responsibilities may include assisting customers, answering questions, stocking and organizing merchandise, maintaining store appearance, assisting with inventory, communicating customer needs to appropriate team members, and providing general retail support throughout the facility.
United Ag Retail Staff are expected to be customer-focused, dependable, attentive, flexible, and willing to help wherever needed. This is not a register-only assignment. Every team member shares responsibility for creating a clean, organized, welcoming, and efficient store environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Customer Service

Greet customers and cooperative members promptly and professionally.

Provide friendly, courteous, and helpful service throughout the customer's visit.

Listen to customer needs and assist in locating merchandise or identifying the appropriate employee for additional assistance.

Become familiar with store merchandise, departments, services, and general product locations.

Answer customer questions accurately or seek assistance when additional product knowledge is required.

Assist customers by phone and appropriately route calls or messages.

Handle customer concerns professionally and involve management when necessary.

Thank customers for their business and help create a positive experience that encourages them to return.

Maintain professionalism when interacting with customers, coworkers, vendors, and cooperative members.
Cash Register & Transaction Responsibilities:

Accurately operate the point-of-sale/register system.

Process cash, check, credit/debit card, account, and other authorized transactions according to company procedures.

Accurately process purchases, returns, exchanges, discounts, and other approved transactions.

Verify pricing and quantities when completing transactions.
-
Maintain accuracy and accountability when handling company funds.

Follow procedures related to cash drawers, register balancing, receipts, and transaction documentation.

Protect customer, member, and company financial information.

Immediately communicate transaction discrepancies or concerns to management.

Follow established procedures for customer charge accounts and other cooperative purchasing arrangements.
Teamwork & Communication:

Work cooperatively with store management and fellow employees.

Communicate professionally and respectfully.

Assist coworkers during high-volume periods.
-
Respond appropriately when another area of the store requires support.

Maintain clear communication regarding customer needs, inventory concerns, pricing questions, and operational issues.

Support new employees as they learn store procedures and customer-service expectations.

Follow management direction and established company procedures.
Attendance & Scheduling:
Reliable attendance is an essential expectation of this position.

Report to work on time and prepared for the scheduled shift.

Follow United Ag procedures for attendance, scheduling, timekeeping, and requesting time off.

Accurately clock in and out for all hours worked.

Employees may be scheduled for opening or closing shifts based on store needs.

Availability for weekends, seasonal periods, holidays, special events, and extended operating hours may be required based on the employee's assignment and location.

Education & Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
-
Previous cashier, retail, customer-service, agricultural retail, hardware, feed, farm-and-ranch, or similar experience preferred.

Previous cash-handling experience preferred.

Equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience may be considered.

Training may be provided to candidates who demonstrate strong customer-service skills, reliability, and willingness to learn.
