What You Will Do
- JOB SUMMARY We are seeking a highly skilled and business-oriented Senior Counsel, Commercial & Operations (Fixed-Term, Benefits Eligible) to join our Legal team. This is a 6-month fixed-term position supporting a maternity leave, with primary responsibility for providing strategic legal support to our Commercial organization, including marketing, sales, consumer insights, and commercial contracting matters. In addition to supporting the Commercial business, this role may provide legal support across operational and supply chain functions based on business needs and team capacity, including procurement, logistics, trade compliance, finance, tax, and sustainability initiatives. Ideal candidate will bring strong commercial experience, a practical and proactive approach to problem solving, and the ability to navigate complex commercial, regulatory matters in a fast-paced environment. This individual will serve as a trusted business partner, helping advance business objectives while effectively managing legal risk.
This is a benefits-eligible, 6- month fixed-term position expected to support the organization during a maternity leave absence.

Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, shaping legal strategy that protects the company's interests while unlocking new pathways for growth.
- WHAT YOU WILL DO (This list is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary by the Company.) Provide practical and strategic legal advice on matters related to marketing, sales, consumer insights, procurement, supply chain, logistics, and sourcing activities. Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements, including marketing services, sales promotions, licensing, sponsorships, consumer research, supply, manufacturing, transportation, and vendor contracts. Support product commercialization and supply chain transformation initiatives by identifying legal risks and enabling compliant execution of strategic business objectives. Conduct advertising and promotional material compliance reviews to ensure alignment with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies. Provide legal guidance on trade compliance matters, including tariffs, customs classifications, country of origin determinations, and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations. Advise on sustainability-related legal requirements, including Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) obligations and evolving environmental compliance matters. Support regulatory matters involving federal, state, and industry-specific agencies and requirements, including product classification, labeling, sales, marketing, and operational compliance obligations. Collaborate with Finance, Tax, Marketing, Sales, Operations, Procurement, Supply Chain, and other internal stakeholders to ensure legal alignment, mitigate risk, and support business objectives. Monitor and interpret legal and regulatory developments impacting commercial and operational activities and translate them into actionable business guidance. Develop and deliver training to business teams on key legal topics, including commercial contracting, advertising law, procurement policies, trade compliance, and regulatory requirements. Assist in the resolution of commercial and operational disputes, including pre-litigation strategy and coordination with external counsel as needed. Partner cross-functionally to support strategic business initiatives while balancing legal risk with commercial opportunities.
Qualifications
- REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
Minimum of 5 years of legal experience.
Experience in a highly regulated industry.
Must be 21 years of age or older.
Skills & Competencies:
Strong strategic thinking and business acumen.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proven ability to manage complex legal issues and influence cross-functional stakeholders.
Ability to balance legal risk with commercial and operational objectives.
Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Microsoft Teams.
Work Environment and Physical Demand
Ability to travel.
Requires light physical effort. Occasionally lifts or moves light objects (under 10 lbs.).
Walks, sits, or stands for prolonged periods.
Requires prolonged machine operation including computer and keyboard equipment as well as use of manual dexterity and fine motor skills.

Annual Base Salary Range: $160563.00 - $214084.00
Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and internal equity. This role may also be eligible for annual bonus or incentive compensation.
