Position Summary
This position is responsible for the continuous on-site electrical inspection of municipal-type construction of new facilities for the NTMWD with the purpose of determining that such facilities are completed in accordance with the details of the electrical plans, specifications and applicable codes. Ensures all electrical installations adhere to safety standards to protect employees and public welfare.
Job Responsibilities
- Provides daily onsite oversight of electrical contractor activities under the supervision of the Electrical Inspection Supervisor.
- Inspects all phases of construction with emphasis on electrical, to verify conformance with plans, specifications and relevant codes.
- Ensures materials and equipment installed conforms to approved electrical submittals, specifications and codes.
- Performs on-site inspections of electrical components, wiring, switchgear, transformers, and other equipment to assess and ensure adherence with project specifications and approved submittals.
- Verifies the installation of conduit, steel, and concrete in duct banks for proper placement and alignment.
- Conducts visual inspection of the contractor providing various tests such as wire continuity, insulation resistance, and switchgear and equipment testing.
- Ensures the breaker and relay settings are set as required by specifications and the Short Circuit Study requirements.
- Informs the Electrical Inspector Supervisor when issues or discrepancies arise.
- Maintains detailed daily reports of all activities, testing, weather conditions, work quantities, work progress etc. with the ability to manage multiple ongoing projects.
- Verifies the accuracy of work quantities accomplished on each monthly pay estimate.
- Available to the Contractor during all working hours for the purpose of resolving electrical questions that may arise concerning the electrical details of construction project.
- Communicates and collaborates with project managers, and engineers to explain requirements.
- Ensures the contractor adheres to their safety standards on-site and addresses any eminent or life-threatening hazards or violations immediately with the contractor.
- This position may require working weekends and off-hours depending on the project.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Education & Experience:
- Must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D.
- Requires two (2) years of electrical inspection or similar experience.
- Texas Journeymen Electrician license preferred.
- Requires a valid Texas Driver’s License.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of relevant codes and standards, such as AREMA C&S Manual, NFPA 70, NFPA 70B, NFPA 70E, IEEE, and NESC.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
- Competence in performing basic mathematical calculations and scaling distances from plans or on-site measurements.
- Must be able to effectively communicate in person, by telephone and email.
- Must be able to effectively work in minimally supervised and/or unsupervised environments.
- Must be able to perform mathematical calculations, scale distances from plans, and measure distances on the ground.
- Must be able to work constructively with contractors, franchise utility and municipal employees.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), Adobe Acrobat, & Construction Management Software.
- Must have the ability to work independently and possess an aptitude for detail.
Environmental and Physical Working Conditions
Driving a District vehicle for business will be required. Employees required to drive as part of their job duties are responsible for maintaining a current, valid, and vehicle - appropriate driver' s license of their resident state.
Work conditions vary from indoor to outdoor activities. Outdoor activities may involve exposure to unfavorable worksite conditions including but not limited to heat, cold, dust, dirt, noise, heights and uneven walking surfaces. May be required to office out of the company vehicle. Activities may require sitting, standing, walking, bending, crawling, climbing, kneeling, balancing, pushing, pulling, carrying, dragging up to 75 pounds of equipment. Equipment used includes a level, steel tape, camera, testing equipment and electrical equipment. Work may vary depending on information requests.
