Role: Lead Data Scientist (AI & Demand Forecasting)
Location: Remote (U.S.) or Miami, FL
Duration: Long-Term Contract (1+ Year)
Overview
Our cruise line client is seeking a highly experienced Lead Data Scientist to support a high-visibility AI-driven demand forecasting initiative within its Integrated Business Planning and Finance Transformation program. This is a senior-level, hands-on individual contributor role for someone who can quickly step into a complex production environment and contribute immediately with minimal ramp-up.
This is not a people management position. Instead, we're looking for a technical leader who can independently own sophisticated data science initiatives, influence business decisions, and deliver production-ready solutions that drive measurable business impact.
About the Project
The team is building and enhancing AI-driven demand forecasting capabilities that support product procurement decisions across the cruise line’s fleet.
The platform processes a wide range of business-critical data, including:
- Demand forecasting
- Supply chain and procurement data
- Inventory and product consumption
- Purchase orders
- Revenue forecasts
- Future sailings and deployment schedules
The forecasting ecosystem is already delivering significant business value and cost savings and continues to gain executive-level visibility across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end development of advanced forecasting and machine learning solutions.
- Translate complex, ambiguous business questions into statistically sound analytical approaches.
- Evaluate stakeholder requests and recommend alternative solutions when appropriate.
- Design, build, validate, and deploy production-ready machine learning models.
- Leverage AI-assisted development tools such as Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, or similar tools to accelerate delivery while maintaining quality and accuracy.
- Work within a large-scale production environment containing numerous interconnected notebooks, pipelines, and models.
- Assess downstream impacts of model or code changes before deployment.
- Partner closely with business leaders, data scientists, analysts, and engineering teams to deliver measurable results.
- Take ownership of critical initiatives and operate with limited oversight.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of hands-on Data Science, Machine Learning, or Advanced Analytics experience.
- Strong statistical foundation and deep understanding of predictive modeling techniques.
- Demonstrated experience delivering complex ML or forecasting solutions from concept through production deployment.
- Expertise in Python and modern machine learning frameworks.
- Hands-on experience with Databricks in a production environment, including development and deployment of machine learning, forecasting, or advanced analytics solutions using notebooks, workflows, and large-scale data processing frameworks.
- Experience solving complex business problems using data-driven methodologies.
- Strong ability to communicate technical decisions and challenge assumptions when appropriate.
- Experience working in large, collaborative production environments with interconnected pipelines and models.
- Proven ability to balance speed, accuracy, and business impact.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demand forecasting
- Supply chain analytics
- Procurement optimization
- Inventory forecasting
- Revenue management
- Hospitality or travel forecasting
- Financial planning and forecasting
What Success Looks Like
The ideal candidate can:
- Quickly understand complex business problems with minimal guidance.
- Separate good ideas from bad ideas and explain why.
- Use AI development tools effectively without blindly trusting outputs.
- Deliver production-quality solutions efficiently.
- Understand how their work affects broader systems and downstream processes.
- Operate as a trusted senior technical leader and advisor.
Team & Culture
- You'll join a growing team of Data Scientists, contractors, analysts, and technical partners supporting a critical business transformation initiative.
- Candidates should be comfortable working in a collaborative environment and taking direction from technical leaders regardless of tenure or years of experience. Humility, adaptability, and a strong delivery mindset are highly valued.
