Palmyra Christian Academy is looking for a bus driver to assist with field trips and/or a substitute bus driver for the daily shuttle route between Hannibal and Palmyra.
This position requires a CDL license with passenger and air brake endorsements. It does NOT require a school bus endorsement since we are not picking up and dropping off students from individual houses.
This would be a very flexible position and the schedule would be subject to the driver's availability. The driver would need to pass a background check and sign an employee handbook, including statement of faith and code of ethics/expectations.
Duties
- Conduct thorough vehicle inspections before and after trips to ensure mechanical safety and compliance with DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations.
- Follow traffic laws, safety protocols, and transportation safety regulations to ensure passenger safety at all times.
- Assist passengers with boarding and disembarking, including providing special needs assistance when required.
Experience
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements: passenger (P) and air brake (L) endorsements.
- Proven experience driving large vehicles such as school buses, motor coaches, or shuttle vans in urban or suburban environments.
- Strong knowledge of traffic laws, defensive driving techniques, and vehicle inspection procedures.
- Familiarity with transportation safety regulations set by the DOT and state authorities.
- Mechanical knowledge related to bus maintenance and troubleshooting minor mechanical issues.
- Experience operating in adverse weather conditions while maintaining safety standards.
- Excellent communication skills in English for effective interaction with passengers and team members.
Pay: $20.00 per hour
