Position Summary: I&E Designer V/Design Manager is the highest-level technical design role and functions as a subject-matter expert in Industrial and Electrical design for industrial facilities. This position is responsible for developing and reviewing expert-level models, layouts, complex wiring, installation details, and design packages while guiding technical direction on large or complex projects. Lead advanced interference resolution efforts, support major constructability assessments, and provides authoritative input during internal and client design reviews. As a discipline lead, this role drives continuous improvement in design workflows, modeling practices, and technical standards.
Key Responsibilities: include the following (Other duties may be assigned):
· Review new project proposals and develop I&E man-hour estimates and scope of work. Collaborate with the E&I engineer, other disciplines and Project managers to complete proposals.
· Lead design efforts for FEL scope development and installed cost estimates.
· Assist department manager and lead engineers in assigning team members to projects and maintaining schedule and progress reporting on I&E portions of projects.
Perform as an I&E design leader, and direct other designers and drafters to complete portions of larger projects.
· Responsible for project quality by ensuring that design team follows standards and checking procedures for all project work.
· Lead complex interference detection and coordinate with all disciplines to ensure seamless integration.
· Serve as a subject-matter expert for design methodologies, modeling best practices, and software usage.
· Guide technical discussions during internal and client model reviews.
· Perform detailed fieldwork to interpret constraints and validate constructability.
· Recommend improvements to design workflows, templates, and standards.
· Ensure that all deliverables meet the highest levels of technical quality, clarity, and constructability.
Qualifications:
· Preferred - associate’s degree or some college credits in construction management or engineering. (Electrical preferred)
· 15 plus years of I&E design experience within refinery, petrochemical, or industrial facilities.
· Must have 5+ years of supervisor or management experience mentoring drafters or designers.
· Require extensive Instrument and electrical design experience in Petro chemical Industry
· Experience completing FEL Scope Development Packages and TIC estimating (ASPEN experience a plus)
· Knowledge of standards and practices in Industrial Engineering design.
Skills and Abilities:
· Expert proficiency with AutoCAD, 3D Design Packages, Auto Plant 3D, Cad Worx and related design tools.
· Expert level in utilizing batch routines and data manipulating techniques with design software interface to automate drawing production and improve efficiency.
· Deep technical understanding of other disciplines, mechanical systems, piping design, equipment layouts, and fabrication requirements to ensure interdisciplinary coordination.
· Ability to diagnose complex design challenges and propose effective solutions.
· Strong leadership presence in technical reviews and client discussions.
· Excellent communication, documentation, and analytical skills.
