Overview
Up Your Alley is seeking a motivated and skilled Line Cook / Prep Cook to join our kitchen team. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing and cooking food to the highest quality standards, while maintaining a clean and organized kitchen. You will work alongside our culinary team to ensure that every dish is prepared efficiently, safely, and with attention to detail.
Responsibilities
· Food Preparation: Prepare ingredients for cooking, including chopping, marinating, and portioning. Ensure all prep work is done accurately and in a timely manner for service.
· Cooking & Assembly: Cook menu items according to recipes and standards, ensuring consistent quality and presentation. Follow proper cooking methods for all dishes.
· Station Management: Manage a specific station on the line (grill, fryer, sauté, etc.), ensuring it is well-stocked, clean, and organized throughout the shift.
· Quality Control: Ensure all food served meets the quality standards of Up Your Alley, including taste, appearance, and temperature.
· Food Safety & Sanitation: Follow health and safety guidelines to ensure safe food handling, proper storage, and cleanliness of kitchen equipment. Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment at all times.
· Inventory Management: Assist with inventory tracking and help manage the rotation of stock to minimize waste and ensure freshness.
· Timing & Coordination: Work efficiently to meet ticket times, ensuring that all items are ready and plated for service at the right time.
· Collaboration: Work closely with other kitchen staff and front-of-house team to ensure smooth communication and the timely delivery of food.
· Adaptability: Be willing to help in various areas of the kitchen as needed and assist with other tasks like dishwashing, cleaning, and setting up prep for the next day.
Qualifications:
· Experience: Previous line cook or prep cook experience is preferred, but entry-level candidates with a passion for cooking are also encouraged to apply.
· Knowledge of Cooking Techniques: Familiarity with a variety of cooking methods, such as grilling, sautéing, frying, and baking.
· Time Management: Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced kitchen environment while maintaining quality.
· Attention to Detail: Ability to follow recipes and maintain consistency in food preparation and presentation.
· Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and work in a hot and fast-paced environment.
· Team Player: Strong collaboration and communication skills, with a positive attitude and willingness to work as part of a team.
· Food Safety: Knowledge of basic food safety and sanitation practices.
· Flexibility: Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed based on the schedule.
