Humane Society of West Michigan (HSWM) is seeking a passionate part - time Facilities Coordinator to join our team!
This position works 20 - 25 hours a week.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
● High School Diploma, GED or equivalent; with a strong preference for advanced education, associates or bachelor’s in a related field
● Valid driver’s license is required for routine vehicle maintenance and other various tasks
● Working knowledge and skill of carpentry, metal work, plumbing, electrical work, cement work, painting, as well as basic principles of air conditioning, heating and floor coverings
● Knowledge of standard safety rules, including fire prevention
● Ability to trouble shoot problems and use the correct tools to perform all functions of the position
● Skilled in the techniques used in the maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment
● Ability to read and understand schematics, prints or as-built drawings
● Ability to operate hand tools and approved power tools
● Ability to work harmoniously and respectfully with staff, volunteers, the public and vendors (e.g., mechanical vendor, contractors, etc.)
● Ability to communicate effectively with staff
● Experience utilizing Microsoft Outlook for email and calendar management
● High attention to detail proven through accuracy
● Highly-organized and efficient work practices (e.g. Seeks to proactively anticipate job related needs and to address them immediately.)

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
● Responsible for repairs and maintenance of the physical structure and equipment, using hand tools and power tools.
● Perform routine tasks related to the maintenance, repairs and minor modifications of the building, equipment and common areas as assessed and/or requested.
● Operate and maintain approved power tools and light mechanical equipment
● Perform basic painting, carpentry, electrical and plumbing repair work of average difficulty in response to service requests
● Conduct inspections of building structure and communicate needed repairs and maintenance to the Senior Director of Operations; determines work techniques, plans the work, determines the type of equipment to be used; as well as materials necessary
● Obtain quotes and information which would assist in the decision making of hiring contractors, sub-contractors; appraising contractors and subcontractor’s productivity; and follow up to assure work was completed according to the contract/agreement
● Troubleshoot repairs and replaces wiring and parts for electrical outlets, switches, light fixtures, breaker switches, fuses, fittings and basic plumbing (e.g., leaky faucets, clogged drains, sewer lines and toilets, sink and water cutoffs)
● Keep the outward appearance of the facility neat and clean (e.g., pick up litter, dispose of trash in outdoor trash receptacles, maintain landscaping and trails)
● Operate gasoline powered equipment such as power washers, blowers, weed-eaters, chainsaw, etc.
● Work closely with mechanical, electrical or other contractors to assist in performance of preventative maintenance on various machines and equipment to keep in good running condition
● Keep garage organized with a focus on safety and cleanliness; work with fellow colleagues to create and maintain inventory
● Schedule quarterly and annual facilities maintenance and inspections
● Manage routine maintenance of HSWM vehicles
● Perform basic janitorial duties as assigned
● Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Director of Operations to meet the needs of the organization.

Physical Demands
● Work requires lifting and carrying animals and items that weigh up to 50 pounds. Will be assisted by other staff members with animals and items weighing over 50 pounds.
● Required to stand or walk for prolonged periods of time, bend, stoop, work from elevated levels and work in confined spaces as necessary
Pay: From $15.00 per hour
