Composites Technician — Custom Shallow Water Flats Boats
Egret Boats | St. Augustine, FL | Full-time
About Egret Boats
Egret Boats builds custom shallow water flats boats and center consoles, hand-built one hull at a time in St. Augustine. We run a small crew across a six-model lineup. Everyone here touches the boat. If you want to point at a finished hull and know you built it, this is that kind of shop.
The Role
We're looking for a composites technician to run lamination and structural work from mold prep through finished part. This is the front end of the build — the work that determines whether everything downstream goes smoothly or turns into a fight.
What You'll Do
- Prep and wax molds, apply gelcoat and skin coats
- Hand lay fiberglass, biaxial, and woven roving to spec
- Mix resin and catalyst to correct ratios and track pot life in Florida heat
- Install and bed core materials (Coosa, Divinycell, marine plywood)
- Run vacuum bagging and infusion where the build calls for it
- Pull, trim, and prep parts for assembly
- Bond stringers, bulkheads, liners, and hardware backing plates
- Tab and glass structural joints
- Grind, sand, and fair parts to a clean transition
- Keep the shop clean and follow resin, solvent, and PPE handling procedures
What We're Looking For
- 2+ years hands-on composites or fiberglass experience — marine preferred, but aerospace, RV, tank, or architectural composites all translate
- Solid understanding of resin systems, catalyst ratios, and cure behavior
- Comfortable reading build specs and laminate schedules
- Able to work in a respirator and full PPE in a warm shop
- Shows up on time and works clean
- Able to lift 50 lbs and work in confined spaces (bilges, under decks)
Nice to Have
- Vacuum infusion experience
- Gelcoat spray experience
- Mold building or tooling repair
- Basic hand and power tool proficiency beyond composites work
What We Offer
- $25+ per hour, based on experience
- Dental and vision coverage
- Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM
- Steady work with a growing brand and a real path to lead-hand as we scale
- All PPE and respirators provided
