Position Summary
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Project Engineer to support projects from initial customer inquiry through final fabrication and installation. This position combines engineering, CAD design, estimating, project management, customer communication, and production coordination to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget.
The ideal candidate enjoys solving technical challenges, managing multiple projects, and working closely with both office and shop personnel in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management
- Manage fabrication projects from initial customer inquiry through project completion.
- Review customer drawings, specifications, contracts, and project requirements.
- Develop project schedules and coordinate shop resources, materials, and subcontractors.
- Monitor project progress to ensure quality, schedule, and budget objectives are achieved.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for customers, vendors, subcontractors, and internal team members.
- Communicate project updates, schedules, and change orders to customers and management.
- Prepare project documentation, closeout packages, and project records.
- Perform occasional field measurements and attend project meetings as needed.
Engineering & CAD Design
- Create and revise fabrication drawings using CAD software.
- Develop shop drawings, assembly drawings, erection drawings, and fabrication details.
- Produce material takeoffs and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Assist in the design of custom fabricated products, fixtures, and manufacturing improvements.
- Ensure drawings comply with customer specifications, applicable codes, and fabrication standards.
- Collaborate with production personnel to resolve design or manufacturing challenges.
Estimating & Production Support
- Assist in preparing project estimates, quotations, and bid packages.
- Coordinate purchasing of steel, hardware, and outsourced services.
- Support production scheduling and workflow planning.
- Identify opportunities to improve manufacturing efficiency and reduce project costs.
- Assist with quality control by verifying fabricated products meet project requirements prior to shipment.
Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related field. Equivalent industry experience will also be considered.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, or similar 2D/3D CAD software.
- Strong understanding of fabrication, welding, machining, and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, structural plans, and specifications.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and project management skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in structural steel, miscellaneous metals, or custom fabrication.
- Knowledge of welding symbols, fabrication standards, and industry best practices.
- Experience with estimating, purchasing, and material takeoffs.
- Working knowledge of OSHA safety practices in a manufacturing /fabrication
Pay: $60,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
