John Turner Consulting (JTC) is seeking motivated individuals to join our team as Laboratory Construction Materials Testing Technicians. This position is an excellent opportunity for candidates interested in building a career in construction materials testing, quality control, and inspection.
The position involves laboratory testing and evaluation of construction materials, including asphalt, concrete, soils, aggregates, and rock. Daily work will primarily be performed at a JTC laboratory or, as needed, at client laboratory and asphalt production facilities.
In this role, you will be an integral member of our laboratory team while also supporting field operations through asphalt plant inspection and quality control activities. JTC will provide training and certification opportunities for motivated candidates who are eager to learn, develop their technical skills, and advance within the construction materials testing industry.
Our laboratories routinely perform testing in accordance with ASTM and AASHTO standards, as well as project-specific, FAA, state DOT, and other federal specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine laboratory testing of asphalt, concrete, soils, aggregates, and other construction materials.
- Perform asphalt plant inspection and quality control activities as assigned.
- Accurately document test results and prepare laboratory reports for review.
- Follow applicable ASTM, AASHTO, project, and agency testing procedures.
- Perform routine maintenance, calibration checks, and standardization of laboratory equipment.
- Properly use, maintain, and care for company-issued equipment.
- Maintain an organized, clean, and safe laboratory work environment.
- Communicate effectively with laboratory staff, field personnel, project managers, contractors, and clients.
- Perform additional construction materials testing and inspection duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Construction materials testing, laboratory, paving, or related construction experience is preferred; motivated entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply.
- NETTCP HMA Plant Technician certification preferred or willingness and ability to obtain.
- NETTCP Soils & Aggregate Laboratory Technician certification preferred or willingness and ability to obtain.
- ACI Concrete Strength Testing Technician certification preferred or willingness and ability to obtain.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications and email.
- Ability to accurately document testing activities and results.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Ability and willingness to work in both laboratory and asphalt plant environments.
- Commitment to workplace safety and compliance with JTC policies, including health and safety, drug and alcohol, harassment, and professional conduct requirements.
- Responsible and ethical use of company equipment and resources in accordance with JTC policies.

Pay Range: $30.00–$40.00 per hour, depending on experience, qualifications, and current industry certifications.
