Overview:
Supports the kitchen by insuring proper and safe handling, holding, serving and storage of food. Maintains cleanliness of kitchen area.
Starting rate of pay is $16.00/hr. This is a part time position
Responsibilities:
- Supports the department and staff in providing safe food that is presentable and properly portioned.

Restock food on the line – including paper supplies and stock ware.

Provide assistance to the cook and dishwasher and stock worker.

Conduct the movement of the line. Assuring proper food handling and portion sizes.

Provide support to volunteers and control of client needs and special meals.

Ensure the line is set up and all foods are held and served at a proper temperature.

Clean the serving area, help store or dispose of all food leftovers that cannot be re-served.

Sign invoices for deliveries when the Director, Inventory Stock person or Cook are not available.

Responsible for the cleanliness of the kitchen area, equipment and all shelves during and at the end of assigned shift.

Ensure all food items left over are sealed, dated and properly stored according to regulations.

Unload and put away stock when shipments are received – as needed.

Wear uniform, hair coverings, proper shoes and gloves when in direct contact with food.

Other duties as requested by the Food Service Manager or the HLC Executive Director
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent required.

Entry level kitchen experience desired.

At least 6 months experience with food volume production or culinary/hospitality training

Must be able to routinely lift and carry boxes weighing 50 pounds or more.

Must be able to use stairs, when necessary, for building evacuations, drills or during elevator maintenance.

Ability to understand the use of kitchen equipment.

Required extended standing up to full duration of scheduled shift.
- Able to withstand high temperatures for prolonged times.

Able to handle knives, sharp objects, cleaning chemicals and various levels of noise.

Effective in dealing with the public and/or dealing with intoxicated individuals.

Speaks positively about the programs, staff and The Salvation Army.

Verbalizes pro-social thinking using respectful language, tone of voice and body language.
