At Foster, we’re on a mission to positively impact people and processes through smarter, leaner supply chains. In this role, you’ll drive meaningful change by optimizing our internal fleet operations — routing assets and drivers, scheduling equipment needs, and maximizing fleet utilization across both local/regional foodservice deliveries and long-haul/regional CDL-A lanes. You’ll turn data into action that reduces cost, improves efficiency, and supports our commitment to “Finding a Better Way.” Bring your authentic self and help us move product smarter every day.
Who You Are:
You’re a curious, data-driven problem solver who loves optimizing how assets and people move. You thrive on analyzing routes, identifying utilization opportunities, and using tools like Samsara and Roadnet to create efficient, cost-effective schedules. You enjoy working closely with operations and drivers to turn insights into real-world improvements. Collaboration comes naturally, and you see yourself as a change agent who helps the team work smarter. You align with Foster’s values: Building Trust, Driving Innovation, Fueling Precision, and Designing Simplicity - and you’re excited to contribute to a culture where people and performance both matter.
What You’ll Do:
-
Be an integral part of a high-performing transportation team focused on continuous improvement and connecting People Food Together across our internal fleet operations.
-
Own daily and weekly routing for internal assets and drivers using Roadnet and Samsara, optimizing both local/regional foodservice deliveries and longhaul/regional CDL-A lanes.
-
Schedule and plan asset needs to ensure the right equipment is in the right place at the right time, balancing customer demand, driver availability, and cost efficiency.
-
Analyze fleet utilization data to identify opportunities for improved asset deployment, reduced empty miles, better driver productivity, and overall cost reduction.
-
Build and maintain dashboards and reports that give leadership clear visibility into routing performance, fleet utilization, cost per mile, on-time performance, and other key operational KPIs.
-
Partner closely with Operations, Dispatch, and Drivers to implement routing changes, resolve issues, and continuously improve how we move product internally.
-
Support freight audit and cost control efforts on any purchased transportation, while primarily focusing on optimizing our owned fleet and driver network.
-
Identify root causes of inefficiencies in routing, scheduling, or asset utilization and lead or support initiatives that drive measurable cost savings and service improvements.
-
Ensure routing and scheduling decisions support safety, DOT compliance, food safety/temperature requirements, and Foster’s high standards for service and precision.
What You Bring to the Table:
-
A passion for optimizing how people and assets move - you get excited about finding better routes, smarter schedules, and higher utilization that saves money and improves service.
-
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business Analytics, Transportation, or a related field.
-
2–4 years of experience in transportation analysis, routing, fleet utilization, or logistics planning. Experience in food distribution, refrigerated/perishable, or private fleet environments is strongly preferred.
-
Hands-on experience with routing and optimization tools - Roadnet and/or Samsara experience is highly valued.
-
Strong analytical skills with advanced Excel (pivot tables, modeling) and familiarity with data visualization tools (Power BI or Tableau a plus).
-
Solid understanding of routing principles, driver scheduling, asset utilization, and the unique requirements of both local/regional deliveries and longhaul/regional CDL-A operations.
-
Excellent communication and collaboration skills - able to work effectively with dispatch, drivers, operations, and leadership to implement changes.
-
Alignment with Foster’s values: Building Trust, Driving Innovation, Fueling Precision, and Designing Simplicity — and a genuine interest in contributing to a people-first culture.
-
Strong attention to detail, curiosity, and a proactive mindset focused on finding better ways to operate.
