This is the entry level position for engineering technicians in construction materials testing.
Assistant Technician must keep accurate field and laboratory records. Assistant Technician must follow Company policies and procedures. Under close supervision, learns to perform a limited number of laboratory and field assignments, including the following:
Soils
- Proctor, Gradation and Atterberg limits
- Moisture Content
- Sample Density
- Calculations
Concrete
- Recording samples into system
- Break cylinders, beams and cubes
- Calculations
Asphalt
- Field Mat Density
- Densities on cores
Soil
- Field Classification
- Nuclear Compaction
Concrete Tests
- Concrete Sampling
- Cast Cylinders and Beams
- Slump
- Air
- Temperature
Miscellaneous
- Asphalt Compaction
- Percolation Tests
- Performs other duties as assigned
Works for the assigned Department Manager. Meets the public when performing field tests. Must interact with the public positively.
Has sufficient formal education to understand and execute written instructions, codes and procedures, as well as perform math calculations
Must have a valid drivers license with a clean driving record. Work is performed in the laboratory and the field. Travel out of town is required several days per month. Work schedules are set depending on project requirements. The goal for this position is to have 1,976 billed hours per year.
